  1. I did a comparison between my Epson 11000XL flatbed and Kodak i2420 ADF. No editing these are raw output from the scanners. Epson - https://mega.nz/file/boFHBIQD#2JHKgrc6-gA81TZ8iIEtqjn_rIRrTxsVRzjk_LtLkYo Kodak - https://mega.nz/file/u80lyThR#7MPh3uUR-cNZu18jbOineBZaaVbhAtkHI5DTbqkEdJM
  2. I'm the complete opposite I research things to death. I mean honestly from what I've seen you can get just about any Fujitsu ADF within the last 15 years that has a CCD sensor and ultrasonic detection (for detecting multiple pages going through the feeder at once). Only the cheapest bottom of the line scanners don't have the feed detection. I'd avoid multi function scanner/printers as they are all CIS as far as I know. https://www.scantastik.com/ was a great resource for me when researching specs. Alternatively I know I'm new to this but I just bought a flatbed and an ADF and don't actually have a whole lot to scan so I thought I'd throw out there I can scan stuff for you if thats something you'd consider.
  3. Researching scanners is pretty frustrating. There is no standard for specifications, hardly any reviews, and nobody is using them to scan magazines. Theres very little difference between many models and even between multiple generations from what I've read. There is a consensus that CCD is better but you'll see manufacturers publish papers stating that CIS is superior. Probably because its cheaper and smaller. I have no idea if the newest scanners today which are mostly CIS are superior to a CCD from ten years ago. I have my doubts. My recommendation would be to try and obtain scanners through government and institutional surplus. Prices can be more reasonable but you have to keep an eye out for the condition of the scanner which can be difficult especially if its not local to you. If anyone is interested I thought I'd share a spreadsheet I made about ADF, A3, and A4 scanner models (mostly Fujitsu) from my own personal research. Not sure if its of any use but feel free to use it however you like. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tLAGi9QU1QxKWyIklt0QEUmlEKVMu7P55uP_6e42txo/edit?usp=sharing

  5. Hello - I've been lurking here for a while and on the gaming alexandria discog reading through how to scan and what the best methods are. I uploaded my first scan to internet archive and would appreciate any feedback. If it looks good feel free to upload it here. As a side note I'm not super familiar with internet archive's upload process. I'm not sure why it didn't generate the OCR related files or previews I see in other people's uploads so if anyone knows whats going on there it'd be appreciated.
  6. I was able to get rid of the glare by scanning the magazine sideways. Whether or not I can develop a workflow that doesn't take ages and drive me nuts is another matter. I may end up taking a very long and overly circuitous route to debinding. I thought It'd be worth a shot to try at least.
  7. I've been experimenting with learning techniques and scanning methods with my new flatbed scanner and things were looking good until I noticed most pages have a reflection in the gutter. I can get get a clear scan of just about the entire gutter equal to what debinding would get but there is a vertical reflection that goes down the entire gutter. Is there any way in Photoshop to easily fix this that can be utilized during batch editing? The only solutions I found require to much manual work for hundreds of pages. I'm at a bit of a loss. I'm new to this and thought I would give a shot at trying to scan things non destructively. I know the preferred method is to just debind but to make this economically feasible I was hoping to purchase magazines, scan, and resell. Would scans with reflections like this be accepted here? Examples below:
  8. I've been lurking here and in the GA discord (under a different username) while trying to find a scanner and get involved. I have a lot of free time but no hardware and only a few magazines currently. I knew about RM for a long time but I had stumbled across VGHF and saw they were tied to GA and here for their scans but I'm not sure how the overlap works? How do you guys make sure you aren't duplicating work or are these all separate groups doing their own thing working together for preservation? Is there a master list between the three groups? I can see GA has a rough google doc, theres stuff getting posted to archive, and then theres all the stuff here.
  9. Ok thats great! I think to upload here you have to send a message to @Phillyman for upload access.
  10. I meant I have the issues ckek posted to reddit not the missing two issues you have. I also wanted to point out that of the google books Maximum PC collection there are two missing issues - Nov. and Dec issues from 1999. I've looked all over for these two issues and have been unable to find them anywhere. November 1999 is currently up on Ebay but is a bit higher priced than I feel comfortable paying.
  11. I'm not sure what happened to ckek. I too have been eagerly waiting for those last two issues so if you have them it'd be great if they were uploaded. As far as the other issues maybe you could reach out to him on reddit? I have them as well and can reach out if you don't want to. Maybe he'll see the posts here.
