I'd love to own certain games just for the sake of owning them, but not at the prices they go for now. Heck, 15 years ago I never finished my North American Sega Master System collection because I didn't want to pay the $100 it would have cost for a complete copy of James Buster Douglas Knockout Boxing. Now that copy goes for $1,100. Who actually pays that?

I hate that setup. hoteling stations is what they are called I believe, and in government it's workplace 3.0. They were talking about moving to that but there were a lot of complaints. And studies have shown it doesn't work well as it can cause a lot of distractions. They have that sort of setup in my department for the contractors working in the IT branch. I feel bad for those poor bastards.

So as retro gaming has become unaffordable, I decided to use Price Charting to see what the value of some of my games were worth. It uses completed sales on ebay to provide valuation, so if that is your main source of buying retro games, I suppose it's a good metric. If I were to sell anything it would most likely be on ebay before anywhere else. Thankfully I have a USB barcode scanner to make the job a lot easier. After entering all my games and consoles over the course of a few weeks, from Sega Master System games all the way up to Switch games, it's telling my my collection is worth Can$13,000. That's a bit off because I have a brand new indigo Gamecube, but it's not a launch version. It's the version put out at the end of its lifecycle that I paid $25 for. Since there aren't different Indigo models on the site, it seems to think it's an original and has it worth $622. So not including that, the top 10 most valuable items I have according to Price Charting (and thus ebay) are (in Canadian dollars): Super NES Super Set, Complete in box ($460) Sega CD Model 2 Console, New but listed as Complete in box ($431) Sega Master System, Complete in Box ($386) Golden Axe Warrior for Sega Master System , Complete in box ($381) Dragon Quest V Hand of the Heavenly Bride for Nintendo DS, New ($344) New Nintendo 3DS XL Black, Complete in box ($377) Lunar The Silver Star for Sega CD, Complete in box ($302) Seda CD Model 1, loose ($277) Wii U Console 32GB Black, Complete in box ($226) Dragon Quest IV Chapters of the Chosen for the Nintendo DS, New ($212) The prices are crazy. Unless you get lucky at flea markets, thrift shops and garage sales, I don't know how people afford to collect this stuff these days.

I've been working remotely since March of last year. March 16 I think. We were told to take our computers home in case it was announced that we would be working from home, and everyone was expecting it to only before a couple of weeks. Over a year later we are all still at home in my department, with the exception of some people who need to be in the office now and then and the researchers who work in the labs. I think some of them are back but not all the time. The other week we were told that anyone who doesn't have to be in the office to do their job will be working from home until the end of the year at least. The first people to go back are the people with priority; they either need to be on site to do their job fully or because of other circumstances relating to mental health and being isolated at home. Currently they are working on reorganizing all the floors in our building to accommodate those who will work at the office full time going back and the rest of us who will have a hybrid setup, where we work at the office some days and work at home the others. That is what I said my preference was when they sent out a survey. However thinking about it more, I am not sure How much I will like that. I miss being at the office, but I don't miss commuting to and from the office. I won't have my own cubicle anymore and will share it with one or more people so it will no longer be personalized. Plus having to bring my work laptop and dock (and mouse and keyboard probably) back and forth will probably get annoying quickly. Working at home has given me more time to scan and edit magazines for the site and more time to do things around the house. I'll have to see how the hybrid setup works, and depending how it goes, hopefully I will have the chance to change my mind and say I want to be at the office all the time if I decide that would work best for me. I doubt I will decide that considering how much money I save not having to drive or pay for parking or have after school care, but I do miss being around my colleagues in person.

Phillyman is one of the people, but he already has a ton of stuff to scan and no time to really scan it at the moment. Plus he might already have everything; he has not been able to go through and catalog everything. I also have a lot to scan but I am getting through it at a fairly decent pace. I am in Canada however, so shipping to me would be a bit more expensive. I can help cover the difference though if it's an issue. @MigJmz might also be willing to take them. He is the other frequent scanner on the site and is in the US. I know he is editing scans originally scanned by other members and some of his own stuff so I am not sure he is willing to take more on at the moment. Also, yes, it is worth archiving the alternate cover for EGM 82. When we have multiple covers and are able to, we include all of them in the scan of the magazine. Rarely does one member all all versions of the cover, so sometimes it's added later and the file on the site is updated.

So I commenced on scanning the two boxes of Nintendo Power issues that were donated to me years ago through Facebook and an unsolicited email in 2018 (got them in 2019). I had scanned through 78 issues before I had to stop. My Fujitsu scanner ended up getting dust on the underside of the glass. My attempt to take the scanner partially apart and blow the dust out was a bit successful but it ended up getting dust in another spot under the glass the next day after scanning some more. I didn't want to take it apart again because I don't know how to take it apart properly and I didn't want to break it because it's really expensive to replace. So it's been shipped off to Fujitsu in Mississauga Ontario to get professionally cleaned. It's not cheap, but that is what the money from the Video Game History Foundation's purchase of my extra magazines is for. So, with those 78 scans plus the the VG&CE, GamePro August 1995, an Issue of Electronic Games from 1993 and an issue of @Gamer that will come out in 2022, that brings my scan total to 1,027. Geez.

The only one that I can think of is the Super NES Buyer's Guide from Sendai.

E-Day replied to E-Day's topic in New Releases
I don't have any of those sadly, but I have a bunch of other hockey and sports magazines that will find their way on here. But maybe we do need some swimsuit magazines... -
