  1. That is what is so funny about it, everyone loves it but the consumers. No one is buying it.
  2. Yeah, the cost to ship just 6 of the 'phone book' issues to E-Day was going to be about $30 for shipping alone. Of course they had a $10 minimum on shipping to him (the cost of 1 issue in an envelope).
  3. Wow, Xterra1 has been here how long and he was able to see how things work here? Fusoya was here, what, years and still couldn't figure out how to read the [censor bypass] FAQ?!? Bravo Xterra1. Note to Xterra1, before a certain member gets his fruit all out of line, I am not trying to be rude to you or anything. I just think it is funny the whole situation.
  4. If you don't mind, can you scan a few of the 'worst' pages that way we can take a look at it. I mean, if it is missing half the page and only has about 75% of them and such then, yeah, it may be better to wait on that one. But your 'bad shape' may be acceptable to others, you know what I mean? As far as the help with any part of the process, just post and let us know, there will surely be someone to post with some help on the matter.
  5. I agree with both of you, it is going to be a tough gig to get and I am not good enough of a writer to do something like that (maybe back about 10 years ago when I was a reporter but not now, been too long). If anyone from here gets it, let us know, it would be awesome to know a fellow member got it.
  6. Yes, kbf is right, I should have asked you to upload a couple of shots to see what you are outputting first. Been a rough couple days. You should be able to change the quality of the JPG when you save it (but you are using TIFF so it doesn't matter right now).
  7. I didn't know colors could be that bright, especially after clicking through from here. Maybe we need to put an epilepsy warning up till that logo gets changed or something.
  8. Maxconsole.net is looking for reviewers of most everything gaming related (yes, you get to keep whatever they send you to review for them). Full details below: http://www.maxconsole.net/?mode=news&newsid=36213
  9. GTA: Chinatown Wars has barely broke 89,000 in sales for the month of March. Falling very short of the projected sales that Take 2 and Rockstar had thought it would sell (recently the companies forecast sales at about 200-250,000 units). Gamesinustry has the full details on GTA Chinatown Wars. In a related note, sales of House of the Dead: Overkill have been far below expectations, garnering about 45,000 units sold in it's debut month, along with the recently released Madworld. Madworld has only been able to sell approximately 66,000 units in it's opening month of March. Of the nearly 1000 games listed with the ESRB website, only 26 are rated Mature. Head over to Gamasutra for the full article on Madworld and House of the Dead: Overkill.
  10. Welcome and thank you for the donation and willingness to help out, every bit is greatly appreciated. We are currently tryingto get things organized but you can basically compare what is in the download section and what is not to see what we need. There are a few members that have posted in the forums here lists of mags they are currently working on and a couple have lists of mags they own and plan on scanning (though with the amount of time it takes to scan a release it is not likely those lists will get shorter very fast).
  11. Hello, and welcome. It is always great to have another member that is willing to help in any way possible. Your scanner settings are quite high, as you can see from your file sizes that you are getting. I personally use a 300 DPI on my scanner and save it at a maximum quality setting JPG. That results in a file that is about 5 to 10 megs big (depending on what is on the page). That is not unreasonable. I have tried saving as a TIFF but gave up on that after not being able to tell a difference in the quality and seeing the file sizes were about 4 times bigger (plus they would take upwards of a minute to apply final edits in Gimp). So in short, keep it at 300 DPI on your scanner and just save at Maximum Quality (may be called something different in your software-I am using a Lexmark). When editing your pics is when you can make addition changes to the final image, such as if your scan is crooked a little, you can straighten it here. The settings we are going for here are 1440 on the width (your raw scan will be something like 2600+ wide). Saving at a quality setting of 90 in Gimp, or 9 in Photoshop drops the file size down to about a meg per page and looks great. If you have any more questions just post and ask away, someone will help.
  12. Congrats on the new membership there Areala. Thank you very very much for doing what you are doing with the wiki, as meppi said, it is a tremendous help to us. Custom title and everything, nice. Oh don't worry, that other GUY that had that membership really worked at getting it.
  13. Unfortunately right now we are in the middle (my this is a long lasting middle) of getting things organised. We are working very hard on getting lists up that will easily allow people to know what is available and what is needed. My best advice right now would be to post a list of what you have available. The easy answer to your question about what is wanted is really stuff that is video game related (we have been having a problem recently with a certain member trying to confuse new members on this point). That means console video games (PSOne, Atari, SNES, etc) and also computer games (PC, Amiga, Atari-my they got around, Windows, etc). Recently we have started accepting comic books based on video games too. What we don't accept here (mainly because of storage constraints) are manuals. That is why I went looking for other sites that have similar interests as Retromags and was extremely happy to come across the Replacementdocs web site. A key point to make sure to watch though, is that anything you want to offer for download here on Retromags needs to be printed before January 2000, December 1999 and earlier is good.
  14. Not sure if it is nostalgia speaking or not but my first computer that I remember was a Color Computer (2 I believe). I wholeheartedly say yes, it would be awesome to have stuff like that available here. If you are willing to try and scan it, I am more than willing to offer any help in getting them scanned without destroying them, or damaging them. Cover scans would be great to start, maybe build up some enthusiasm for them.
  15. I think you are right Gnash, Fusoya and others like him prefer to run around on the net and do pot shots at others from other websites.
  16. Yeah, I have spent countless hours reading the past forums and just being amazed at his attitude and disrespect for all members of not just Retromags, but other sites and the effort put forth by all. By the way, Fusoya, if you are reading this and wish to voice your opinion about what I have said, my e-mail is not hidden, by all means, step up.
  17. Como estas Areala! Great to see you come over and join up here.
  18. Here is the original post here on Retromags about Michael Jackson and his, then, pending sale of arcade games and such that he owned. Since then, things have apparently gotten better for the King of Pop since he has been able to halt the sale of most of his memorabilia as noted here.
  19. Welcome to all the new members, glad to have you here, stick around and participate if possible, it is going to get more fun soon. To moonboyrob1981, the manuals are currently not supported here out of concerns for the year cutoff, space on site and other factors that kind of deviate from the mission of the site. If you want to scan your manuals and donate them to a site online then may I suggest the site below there? http://www.replacementdocs.com/news.php They seem to be focused mainly on manuals and have quite a few of them up. If you are wanting to scan certain manuals, maybe you could google the system or even the game and find a fan site that may need those scans and donate them there too.
  20. That really is bad. That is one of those things that you never think will happen. Of course, I have copies saved on DVD's that are put up. Hopefully, those won't fail all at once.
  21. I like having everything accessable from a menu system on my PC's but I also keep at least 2 backups on DVD of the magazine releases I download. Redundant, yep. That is why I do it. Sure all media will fail some day but the odds of 3 forms failing at the same time, not likely.
  22. With the hit and run nature of torrents I doubt that original seed (or any that big) will be re-released. You may be stuck downloading one at a time again.
  23. Rather than making a new topic for new coverage I figure I will just post them here: Today, Zophar.net updated their front page with coverage of our latest updates here at Retromags. Got any other mentions of Retromags or members from here doing something to help?
  24. I completely agree with you meppi. I mean, it is different with games made for a handheld, precautions are taken and accomodations made. Look at the Turbo Express. Great little handheld but try playing an RPG on it, or on the Nomad. Good luck with it. May check with Phillyman and see what consoles he needs for his collection (he may be interested in some of the stuff they have there). A few weeks ago, they had a white mega drive, never saw one of those and thinking it was a fake of some sort, walked away from buying it. I went back a couple days later and it was already sold (I never even bothered to ask how much). After looking around online, it may have been a fan repaint or something.
  25. There is a local gaming store that has Nomads for like $20 (no hook ups or anything like a battery pack or power cord) and Game Gears for around $10.
