Just making sure you knew what I was talking about

I agree with the point about construction paper slowing you down (but after finally getting some, it is so worth it in the end).

The table that looks like what Magweasle has up on his site.

What Are Some Good Wii Games?

I thought I recognised it from somewhere, now I know. Have OS playing in the background now. Awesome movie. MORE FLAIR!!! er FLARE!!! -
That is classic.

What about still having a table design (like the excel ones) but take out the part where we have it or need it. Just have it be like the wiki is now (or was, I haven't been since the renovation has commenced) and just have a table of every issue available whether we have it somewhere or not. The only distinction being, when you get the individual page, there will be a download link for the ones we have and there obviously won't be for the ones we need. Either way, BMM can find out what we have available (there is no way around it, him and others like him can nail us on it), but we can make it troublesome for him to get that list rather than visiting one page per magazine series, make him have to visit each page and compare it to the auctions. Does that sound right?

Thanks for setting up those tables you have going there e-day, they are great (at first I was lost at looking at them but then it started coming to me).
-
That is funny, I didn't think about stuff like that when I viewed some of it years ago, except the last one there, had they used that pic, or a similar one, I am sure they would have sold more copies.
-
I am always interested in helping someone get issues they want (especially if you will take care of them better than I can, just ask Waremonger).

Thanks to Gamespot for the news: http://www.gamespot.com/ds/puzzle/galactri...ad_6203651.html This is apparently a little more involved than the previous online flash version that was available as you can actually travel in this demo. http://www.gamershell.com/download_38358.shtml http://news.bigdownload.com/2009/01/22/dow...galactrix-demo/

All in all, I liked it, learned a lot about some games that I would have otherwise just browsed right past online. I think for a first release, that it is quite good. I like how they ended the issue though, I was thinking about something like that when I was reading some of the articles and BAM! there it was. Classic.

Don't worry. My in-laws are going to pay to finish my storage building up here. 900 square feet of storage with 400 extra for a shop that at least he will get to use, heated and cooled with 2x6 studs and 4 1/4 inches of insulation in the walls-it is built better than the house they are living in (got a feeling they will probably swap out living quarters later this summer). So, no worries about the post 1999 stuff, in fact I am going to meet a guy that is giving me another 200 to 300 gaming mags all newer stuff that isn't eligible for here so that will be left here with the rest of my post 1999 issues. Oh as far as the posted list there, I stopped cataloging because I got a hand cramp the third day of making that list, but it doesn't matter, the stuff not on the list is not eligible here anymore so I never bothered to finish it.

Sorry for butting in here but we have a member asking about a faq, is the redo ready? http://www.retromags.com/forums/Ok-Started...html#entry16374

WOW, I didn't know I was going to tear up like this, almost as bad as when I accepted my promotion to Super Mod, noticed not many attended that ceremony. lol Thanks for the kind words meppi. I just want to help. Oh and check the write up again. Have I missed anything that needs to be on the list? Also, are there any items that are pretty much decided (I am looking at you number 1 there)? also, just added: I agree with E-Day there, we do need some kind of common formatting because this could get to be a mess all over again later if not.

Not to say anything bad about your post there, but please be careful with talk of piracy and downloading roms, it is a no no here (not as bad as say, a certain Game Faq site owned by Gamespot). I recently took meppi (a great guy here, you should check out his scans of Maximum in the UK section of the downloads) on a recommendation for a movie, A Tale of Two Sisters, let me tell you, with ear phones on, sitting in the dark with no other light on but the PSP screen and the volume on max so you catch all of the ambient music and noises...I am just under and hour into it and I have been 'watching' it for almost a week. Scares the crap out of me. lol I completely understand your comments about the emulation though, it is a great system, there is a new SNES emulator out that is great. Sega Genesis emulation is near perfect. You can even get 3DO and a very slow Saturn emulator for it now (can't wait for that to improve). I believe that piracy did have a huge part in the situation the PSP is in (even though monthly the average game sales on PSP are only 30,000 to 50,000 lower than DS games-outside of Nintendo's popular stuff, I am sure). I mean, look at the number of people that download the game and never buy a copy. They may not have bought a copy anyhow but still, after you have it, what is the point in spending $20+ for it? The artwork? You can apparently goto a certain site online and download covers for those games complete with even CD lables for some so you can bypass that point. I just wish Sony would market the PSP better, they certainly have the money to fight through this situation (unlike Sega with the Dreamcast and it's piracy problem). I think with the proper placement and advertising detailing the quality of the system/games that it could get so much better (not likely to ever take over the DS in sales but it could certainly be doing better than it is now). They need to do like they did with the Playstation One, go agressively for developers and give them sweet deals on their situation (Crash Bandicoot would never have been had Sony not put as much as they did into assisting with the development, although he is a wholy owned Universal character-or at least was). They need to push the system more. Throw money at developers to get good stuff out, look at God of War, sure Ready at Dawn complained about sales and such but it is one the few 1 million+ sellers on the system (not much when you consider how many PSP's are out there). That brings me to the next point, Sony needs to build up one part over the other as far as promoting the PSP, it does so much but they cover so little in the little advertising they do. Promote the games to people, gamers are the ones that are willing to pay $40 for a game, I mean, it is fine to promote the other stuff but they have a miniscule infrastructure for movies and music downloads. It is a great system and I wish it could be better and it could with just a little more focused attention from Sony.

The guy that owned Gamecock sold his video game interests and apparently made an offer 'higher than the initial one' for Hardcore Gamer. I have heard nothing else about it. Interesting to find out though.

To help get the ball rolling here: Here is a list of the mags I currently have on hand that I plan on scanning and uploading ASAP. Edit: 2/10/09 List removed, please message me if you need a copy of it. Added 7 issues to my list from ebay purchases (in yellow). Going to see about getting some more when they come up.

Where was that quote in Office Space? I am feeling possibly, just maybe, a little, oh I don't know, a slight violation on my persona. lol -
I love my PSP, it is pretty much my complete entertainment center in my pocket (with a 4 gig stick and 2 1 gig sticks, just about everything I need is there and available or on my computer waiting to transfer over). It is sad that Sony really doesn't know how to market it and get word out that it is a great handheld with a ton of potential.

The Retroaction team as been able to get their first issue out, check it out here: The PDF is just under 21 megs and the zip is just under 20 megs http://www.retroactionmagazine.com/magazine/ Here is a quote from their site about the release and help needed information (tell them Retromags sent you):

A new fighting game similar to Comix Zone for the Genesis is coming to PSP from Vogster Entertainment. Here is a video of it from Youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mNvOk2uCyKQ

You have a point E-Day. No argument there. You pointed out the main reason (though I didn't say it) that I am interested in the redesign idea, the wiki is terribly boring and has a bad/confusing layout. Is there any way to add graphics to the wiki or is that completely out of the question? I mean, it would be awesome to do something similar to meppi's work with the redesign and have it tied into the wiki somehow. I do agree though, the less clicks the better for the members coming, people want instant gratification rather than confusion (as it is currently, or was, with the three different registrations required to enjoy everythinng on the site).
-
E-day: I like the idea of expandable links like that on the front page, is it possible? If so, I put my vote in on that. If not, I vote for agreeing on a proper length for the front page so that we don't keep adding length to it. If the wiki is filled in, wouldn't that make it more of a need for an HTML version of the site? I mean, then it would probably not be a full site but somehow integrated to the wiki, a per issue basis with more info and pics (but it would be just a waste of time to repeat what is on the wiki, just prettier). I personally like the HTML version that meppi has been able to create. I think it is eye catching and memorable (not just a wall of text and minimal graphics, though that too has it's own style built into it). As far as starting over on the wiki, I say go for it (I am still just learning the stuff over there-if you don't believe how much of a newb I am at wiki, just check out any of the Gamefans I have, they are all on over there except I think v1i3's cover). I am willing to learn/do whatever is needed. Just point me in the direction... Simplifying the front page like e-day is talking about reminds me of the discussion about doing an HTML version of the site awhile back for some reason. I think most of that stuff up there does need to be gone from the front page at least (DCEmu is horrible about placing too much on their front page or system specific pages and even after years of going there, I am still able to get lost). Adding the month and year into the title on the wiki, would that still have it show up when the user is searching for just the title? Or will it bar users from seeing the page in the results like the whole 001 numbering system does? Hmmm, azzardx's scans. I don't want to sound like a bully or anything (in light of recent, um, discussions on the forums) but something does need to be done there. I mean, it is awesome that he is donating and helping out, but is also a little disconcerting thinking about what if a user only downloads one magazine and it is one of his, do you think they would come back? They may think that that is the quality of the work being released here. Another thing, what if a publisher comes here and does a feeler to see what is going on and gets one of Azz's downloads and uses that as a reason to shut down the operations here (or at least their section)? They could claim we are damaging their image by releasing stuff like that (whether they bring up the copyright issue or not). If you up the requirements on minimum resolution and content quality then we are facing another situation like we had with the whole cutoff date thing. Imagine how many people just won't donate a mag because they feel it may not meet our standards, why waste their time working on it if is going to be dropped by something as subjective as personal view of it? What looks fine to me may look horrible to someone else on a different monitor (like recently meppi helped me fix the colors and such on my monitor after the power failure I went through). My view on removing Azz's stuff (wow, I feel like that issue of Gamepro that had readers go through several pages of text to just be told to be happy with what they get for Christmas when comparing the Genesis and SNES and TG-16) is pretty simple, I think. Don't remove it. Plain and simple. Not at least right now. E-day has said before that between Phillyman and me, we can cover what Azz has put up. I am willing (after finishing up Tres's issues) to start rotating EGM (unless E-day and me can work out something) issues in with my Gamefan issues to get it to where we can replace Azz's stuff as we go. If he sees that his issues are bing replaced with better copies then maybe he will either take the hint and release better stuff or just stop altogether. Hopefully, doing it that way, he will not raise a stink in the forums over it and we it won't look like we are singling out members (as it has been attempted in the past). Ok, let me get behind this lead wall before the flames start coming...
