Ok, so on the wiki we are dropping the 00's in the file name (Gamefan 003 is now Gamefan 3)? I have no problem with it, just making sure I am at least in the same ocean here on this. lol About the Nintendo Power on the Wiki: Both of those pages look nice but I prefer, http://retromags.com/wiki/Nintendo_Power_0...-aug_1988_(USA), for the more information it added plus it has the table of issues down there so people don't have to hit back everytime they want to goto another issue. It would be cool to have the poster from the first page on the second though, that could help trigger a memory for someone that is browsing the wiki and maybe provoke them to join up. The picture on the second page is brighter, did someone up the brightness on it? Credit Rumble from Transformers (the animated movie from the 80's)-

I have Playstation Extreme v4i5 Apr 99 already uploaded here on the site, and have v4i6 May 99 that I can scan soon if you are interested in it. As far as selling them, we can work something out, just pm me or I will you tomorow.

Thank you for changing the front page like that, and quickly. While the page is long and will take longer to load, it will hopefully help in keeping more stuff available so it looks like more is going on (take a look at DCEmu for a front page that is LONG). Not to sound rude, but I am going to finish a couple of things up and head to bed and will get my head around your other points after some sleep.

First of all, it is my fave magazine too, good to meet a fellow fan. Gamefan is like Maximum and Official Sega Saturn Monthly is to meppi (probably going to be a life long work in progress of improving releases). Ok, here is the extreme condensed version of what I know: I am not going to post the bickery and underhanded things that happened early on because that is something between the people involved. Gamefan later in their lifecycle somehow ended up being bought by Gamecave/Express.com with Eidos being involved at some point (still not sure when that $55 million was pumped into the company/mag but it happened before they printed their last issue). The final issues were made with Eric Mylonas as the editor (he is writing game guides for, I believe, Prima at the moment). The first many issues were done with Dave Halverson at the helm, he is currently at Play Magazine in the US (also, he ran Gamer's Republic, another defunct mag). Issue 88, I believe, is the final issue to be released. Sad and abrubpt ending too, similar to EGM but not with as much fanfare. Sorry for that sounding out of sync but it is late and I just now saw your post and wanted to at least get a response up for you. Let me know if you want to know anything else.

Most quotes goto Phillyman, sorry, I have trouble following a conversation this long without them. Just say it. That is the best way to bring it up. We can discuss it after it is mentioned. No hard feelings. 1) I agree with this point. Let them go and be done with it. Me personally, I used the one that put the releaser's name in it maybe a couple of times, after that, I started using a template I made myself without it. 2) What kind of meaningless tasks are you talking about? I have a lot of free time that I just don't feel like scanning or working on a mag and if that time can be used for the betterment of the site, bring it on. Can we discuss this one some more? Continue reading and I will receive. lol I agree with the front page thing. I thought it was cool as heck to see those couple of updates of the week's scans on the front page. Wondered what happened to them, now I know. Would be cool to see again. Where was the information on this posted? I am interested in helping here. 3) I see no problem with this idea. Well, a small one, is there any way to make the front page longer? That way when there is a post like the current Vote on Phillymans Next Scan it will remain on the front page longer and get more votes. That is why I have slowed in posting (not that I was fast about it in the first place) front page stuff. 4) I missed when this was changed. I agree to changing it to a 1 mag=1 month and then 10 mags=lifetime premium membership. That should cut down on some leeching since it will require more work from the person involved. 5) I agree here. Limiting to not only a monthly but a weekly bandwidth amount can only keep people from doing what they are apparently doing now, flying through it in the first couple of days and coming back next month to get the new releases. 6) The poor WIP. I must honestly say, I hated it. I spent enough time updating my Gamefan issues on there that I could have scanned one issue and edited a good portion of it, I thought the WIP was more used though. I must apologise to KBF for talking him into creating a new Mag category over there for it not to be used now. 7) Oh if you could only see the early messages I sent to meppi, nagging him and just being completely annoying trying to work out the steps to get started on the right foot. I am sure he was tired of me after the first week. I am glad he stuck with me and walked me through it because I would have probably left if I had to depend on that FAQ 100%. 8) I just recently discovered how to make a page on the wiki (been messing with Gamefan only) so I have no clue on this other stuff. I agree though, it probably needs to be fixed. 9) How hard is it to set up a redirect? If it is not too hard that could be a bandaid fix, but it could just be masking the problem allowing it to get bigger and messier. I will name my stuff whatever is the standard. I have no real preference on it. It is better if the stuff is in order by month but it would be better, in my opinion, if people could find it from google easier. 10) I have cash how much to buy in? Just kidding. You have just as much right as anyone else to take time off, anyone will get burned out if trying to do too much. That is life. 11) I am downloading those 'r' releases for when I am without my scanner so that I can edit them (with whatever I can scan in the next week and a half) and re-upload them. 12) Agreed. I would say no less than 1440 on the width, honestly. It is getting harder and harder to order a computer without getting a widescreen LCD of some sort with it so why not just go ahead and shoot for that resolution. The 1600 width right now would probably kill some of the downloads due to the increase in file size (but would save redoing work in that size later). 13) Agreed. I am pretty bad about bouncing around on the sizes of my preview pics. Really need to have some kind of uniformity on this, if only on the width (for those off size issues), but it is the 100kb file size limit that could be a barrier. Can that be increased? For the most part, I agree with everything you brought up (whether I mentioned it or not), and if I didn't I explained (not many that I remember there). This stuff being worked on can only make the site better and easier for everyone to get to what they are interested in.

I personally have no complaints about the quality of the scans. They look awesome. Did you join the OOT Poster? If so, that is really good (there are some Nintendo Power Posters needing joining and you seem to be really good at it...). The only problem I see with your scans is that right now the standard width is 1440 (your scans should be bigger than that if you are using 300 DPI). You simply scale the image in your editing software. Anyone else got an opinion here?

The only Apple II game I have played is Alternate Reality the Dungeon and The City (amazing, addictive little games, hard as nails type that beat you up, take your lunch money and slap your momma while they are at it).

The Tri-monthly Pruning Of Inactive Members Thread!
triverse replied to Phillyman's topic in Retromags News
Do you have any way to keep a list of IP's or something to compare possible leechers that are getting dropped due to inactivity but then realising it has been awhile nad come back and just download as much as possible and repeat it? -
I have a bunch of computer magazines, just no time to scan them (I am focusing on Gamefan myself right now mainly because there are no other members that have it).

Here is a new video for Splatterhouse coming to the PS3: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/45204.html

Game Players gets my vote.

Welcome to the mainstream world of gaming. That list was probably compiled by somone that didn't get into gaming till N64 or something newer.

I may be going through a mid life crisis myself. Want to know how I solved the problem? I got a girlfriend that is the same age as my midlife crisis and is into the same stuff. Problem solved.

That was an extreme conolidation of what happened between her and me. I left out the booze guzzling parties she would drag me to where I was the designated driver for over 20 people, the, ahem, orgy, I walked in on a few days prior to her leaving me 'over video games' and then there was the broken nose and broken right index finger. Come to think of it, had it not been for my Saturn, I would have probably left her sooner, I think she may have been a little violent. Eh, who knows, those were some great gaming memories I had from back then.

Just want to say to all who come here and want more of meppi's work, it is like a fine wine, well worth the wait.

So far we have the following members willing to send stuff out: kbf_private_joker And people willing to scan: E-day Akator The details can be left up to everyone involved, but if you don't mind, please post when you ship something and to whom it went so that other members can see that it is safe and there are plenty of trustworthy members here.

Got a message in to the meppi, he handles the rapidshare stuff. Thanks for bringing this up. And welcome to the site. Hope you like it. Thanks for the comments.

My first wife left me over my Saturn playing. What happened was, I apparently played my Saturn too much (didn't like going out and drinking at parties then driving so I would have parties at the house instead). The ex didn't like it and she came in one day and told me it was either her or the Saturn, I told her to hold on a sec, I was about to finish that level (Guardian Heroes, well worth every bit of yelling I had to hear from her). By the time I beat the level she had already moved out like 3 boxes of her stuff. I was like, whatever and went ahead and kept playing. Awesome game, Guardian Heroes. I did beat it later that night.

Eh, with the penetration of high-speed/broadband I don't think they will have to go as small as cartridge games for the next gen/whatever gen ends up being the download only/prevailant one. I think by the time it happens they will be able to get away with at least CD/700 or possibly GD-ROM/1 gig or so size games, but certainly not 30+ gig games.

Well, may as well be dead I guess. Oh, not really, I mean, just because it is the same company doesn't mean it is going to be the same team huh? I am sure the guy that programmed Super Mario Brothers (or was on the team) was probably not the a member of the team that did Super Mario World. Here's to hoping it is a good conversion.

For years I thought that when Sony bought them out that they were just assimilated and the old company was broke up (of course I am sure members come and go over the years), not just renamed. Cool. By the way, love Wipeout. It is just so cool.

I have gotten the first issue and have yet to look at it. I will take your word for it scurti and up this on my priorities list (downloading while I scan some VG&CE's for TresHombres). Are the scans good quality?

Well, most of my formative gaming years, as far as using a mag to decide what to buy and not just blindly buying games, was with EGM in the early days, pre issue 70 or so, after which I depended on Gamefan and then when they went under I depended on friends. Sad times now.

Studio Liverpool=Psygnosis (or at least company formerly known as Psygnosis)?

Here is a site that is coming out with their own mag, they are focusing on classic stuff so I figure it would be worthwhile to post it here for everyone that is interested: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=137661
