  1. Thanks for the info. I've emailed EGM about getting a replacement since more pages are like this.. fingers crossed.
  2. Anyone notice a lot of glitching on the text in this issue? I guess it must have been problems with their printing machine. Not the best example, but the other pics came out even worse (cheap camera on iPod Touch) You can see a bit of it here: "Do you think everyone has seen it".... Missing text....
  3. It's usually how mags die unfortunately. A few others have done that also. Start as monthly, switch to bi-monthly, switch to quarterly, switch to "Final Issue"
  4. A new issue appears....! EGM #260 Technically this should have been "May/June 2013", but since it says to display until September 23rd, 2013 I'm guessing this may be the last issue for a while.
  5. It's just the type of magazine, (video games/technology) and doesn't lend itself to the 3-4 month turnaround time. It's virtually impossible for them to have any real news or major announcements by the time it reaches your hands. Print magazines in general are taking huge hits, partially do to digital tablet editions, and also because of the terrible economy. These things are often what people cut out when trying to save a few bucks. I still think EGM should have incorporated more retro gaming coverage. Retro Gamer seems to be thriving and I have no doubt EGM could do the same.
  6. I spoke with EGM customer support today and they said to expect the May/June (#260) issue of EGM to show up around June 26th. They also said this: Me "So they are planning on shutting down?" Them: "Oh no.. I was just saying." So who knows.
  7. It may depend on the agreement of the retailers. When I managed Babbage's in the 90's we were instructed to destroy them. I hated destroying anything like that so I held on to them, or sometimes I used them as incentives for people to buy the newer issues.
  8. I've seen this before. It usually means the magazine is covering their butt for a possible delay. They would rather have the retailer keep the issue on the shelf longer than to toss them out before a new issue has arrived. At Babbage's (back when there was a plethora of gaming mags) we would always "throw out" (into my car the old mags when the new issues showed up. So I'd thinking EGM's future is looking even more dim.
  9. What I meant was EGM is still still producing new issues while NP is not. I've been collecting game mags since 1981 and have full sets of EGM, Fun Club News, NP, Nintendo Power Flash, and I'm working on the pre-cursor to EGM, Electronic Game Player Magazine. If you are talking longest running "related publications" (I.E. The content that matters most being the writers) I would have to say that goes to Bill Kunkel, Arnie Katz, and Joyce Worley (Electronic Games, Video Games & Computer Entertainment, and the return of EG.
  10. Yep. it's officially outlived Nintendo Power..
  11. I just received my subscriber issue today. Very nice! I was hoping to grab a couple extras for my collection, but it seems they've sold out. I know everyone's already seen them already, but here's a few more pics for the heck of it. 12. You're right. I just got this today. I'm so glad it made it here before the Hurricane hit.
  13. Question of the month... Anyone spot EGM Issue #257 yet? Issue #256 said Display until 10/16/2012 so I assume they planned on at least having another issue out about now.
  14. The best way to contact them is by phone, (800) 829-7830 They also have 2 email addresses: egm@emailcustomerservice.com, support@egmnow.net
  15. Yeah, I bet they will turn the last issue into a Wii-U fest instead of giving the magazine a proper send off. In "semi-related" news. I recently bought a DSi-XL (for the collection). I collect the ClubNintendo coins and liked the idea that this is worth 160 coins. Anyway, It didn't come with a Club Nintendo PIN #. So instead of accepting the 15 pictures of the box from every angle, the original sales receipt, and serial#, they requested that I cut off the part of the box with the UPC symbol and mail it to them. After explaining that I bought it to collect and don't want to destroy the box, and that I have been buying Nintendo products pre-NES, they told me "Sorry, those are the rules!". Not the best way to treat fans IMO. Losing a life long Nintendo customer over a few virtual coins that earn cheap swag. I am glad to see the magazine end only because that means they will have to pay me $80 for the 4 years of subscription I have left. Yes, I had pre-paid for 12 years of NP magazine in advance, but that still gets you nowhere with reps.
  16. For anyone curious to see, here is the official letter from Nintendo about the closing of Nintendo Power Magazine. Larger 400dpi scan here
  17. Yeah, no problem. You'll probably receive it before I getit scanned. If you don't receive it in a week or so let me know and I'll get it scanned for you.
  18. Thanks. I called the 800# and they shipped it out directly. I've pretty much had to call each month.
  19. Wow.. The Martin Alessi. I enjoyed your writing from back in the day. You helped motivate me to try my hand as a video game journalist. Unfortunately I didn't get much further than writing reviews for Philips (CD-i World Magazine).. and we all knew that wasn't much of a gaming machine. I had a chance to write for a few other magazines, but you're right, it's very hard work, and writing was not a skill I was born with. In the end I enjoy the history, preservation, sharing aspect of gaming more. Back in the early days, getting a new EGM or Nintendo Fun Club News/NP in the mail was a little bit like Christmas morning. It'll never be like that again, and it's sad to see them all dropping out. People should at least experience what it's like to read a magazine or book made of paper.
  20. Yeah, I agree. Way too many publications take themselves too serious and sound like they are analyzing a game rather than playing it. I miss the excitement that used to come through in the old EGM or Game Fan mags. You could tell them were dying to get their hands on these games and when they did you were envious as hell and excited to read about it. I enjoy reading Retro Gamer magazine each month. You can tell they are all really into it and it comes through in their writing.
