  1. I re-subbed to EGM in time for the reboot with Steve Harris. He actually contacted me about 6 months before that to use my scans for his project plan so that was a surprise when I heard he was bringing it back. I was referring to the latest problems with EGM managing to get their printed issues into the hands of it's subscribers. They skipped a month and then many of us just received a letter saying the October issue of EGM is now sold out. So we'll have to see how that plays out. The last Hardcore Gamer hard copies I received are these -newest to oldest-: Winter 2008 (Street Fighter IV) Fall 2008 (Dead Space) Summer 2008 (MGS4) Spring 2008 (SSBB) Dec 2007 (Super Mario Galaxy) Nov 2007 (Uncharted) Oct 2007 (Kane & Lynch) Hope I didn't miss any.
  2. Well I haven't let my Nintendo Power sub expire and it's been active since issue #1. It's also set to run until 2016. According to Nintendo (before they sold off the Future, I was listed as their longest subscriber. I'm not sure if that's true or even if I should have made that public. Official Xbox Magazine I was subbed to OXBM Until the 100th issue. Since my 360 RROD I thought it was time to let that die as well. So Oct 2011 was my last EGM Again I started with the Buyer's Guide and subbed at issue #1 so I stuck with them al along and am still subbed, though I don't know if they are still sending printed issues. Retro Gamer Magazine I'm a sucker for their interviews and stories of classic games. A tip for people in the USA. Subscribe withe the code YOUTUBE and you will get 13 issues for about $85. Just beware not to auto renew since they will jack that up to $120! Instead subscribed 2 months before your sub is up, contact Imagine customer service (they rock!!) and tell them to tag the new pId subscription on to your existing account. Of course now that I made that public they will probably "fix" that and I screwed myself out of a cheap renewal. Hmm...thinking of what else. Video Game Collector They promised more issues eventually, who knows?? Hardcore Gamer I think they went PDF only I tried to sub to the new GameFan, but I honestly couldn't no matter how much I bugged them!! Not very good marketing if you ask me. And I think that does it for now.
  3. Oops.. double post.... Anyway, being the OCD person I am, I had 2 cards.. one for my pocket and one to keep mint in an album. Matt
  4. I loved the Nintendo Fun Club News! I was obsessed with Nintendo and SMB at the time and to receive free stuff was very exciting. Then they went and broke news on the SMB Minus Worlds and I nearly lost it. It turned out to be not very exciting, but the hype was enjoyable. I still have many of my original items from the old days including this.... Matt PS: Here's my Magazine collection http://www.videogame.../videogame/mags
  5. They will give you a refund. Just call 800-779-1174 and request a refund. Sad to see EGM go. I bought every issue since #0 (1989 Buyer's Guide), but in a way I am relieved. I didn't care for the magazine for the last few years. Maybe if they had done a few things different they would still be around. As soon as all the original editors and reviewers left they seemed to be replaced by kid's who didn't care about the classics. Other than a tiny sidebar and a page or 2 they seemed to have forgotten their past. It's also not like they have been running out of space lately either. Their magazine has been getting skinier than the Olsen twins. I remember the magzine being so damn big the spine could barely hold together! 400-500 pages if I remember correctly. I think since they couldn't compete with news on the internet they should have focused more on collecting and classic gaming. There are a few magazines now that focus only on that aspect of gaming and they are gaining momentum. Oh well... RIP EGM
  6. Very cool. The first couple years of EGM are my personal favorites! Let me know if you want to use some of my higher quality covers for your mag scans. I spent many hours editing them and it didn't hurt that I kept them sealed for 20 years either
  7. Once a format sells more than the other it would be in the companies best interest to give in and release for that format. I remember Disney stating they wouldn't release their movies on DVD because of the piracy issue. Nothing was done to fix the flaws and the movies were all being decrypted and spread before the first Disney classic hit DVD, but they released anyway. As long as there is money to be made companies will be there to cash in. If these companies don't get their crap together and stop confusing potential customers they won't hit the big numbers like DVDs. I am personally going o built a theater pc and download bluray/hddvd rips until that happens.
  8. HDTV is the new standard. If you have the money to buy an HDTV I highly recommend it. Even the cable companies are catching up with the times. Time Warner here finally offers an HD-DVR for the exact same price as a standard DVR. Just a few months ago they used to charge $10 more for HD and only had a handful of HD channels. At last count they have nearly 30 which is great. With a nice TV and HD it really brings new life to old TV.. I find myself interested in even the daily news in HD I have a large DVD move collection. Probably 500 or so. I will probably sell some of them off in favor of the new formats. I am kinda undecided at the moment too. I don't own a PS3 (probably the only console I don't actually own) so it would make sense to buy that and stick with Blu-Ray. If one format was 1/2 the price of the other it would probably win. I at least feel better about stocking up on something that offers the highest available picture quality. I don't think you will see anything better for at least 10-15 years. Which is impressive for technology.
