  1. It's a potential problem, but it doesn't happen often, especially if you have something that is rare. We used to have a "work in progress" site, but it was too much of a pain to always keep updated. Plus nobody really used it, so it defeated the purpose. Try to find the most rare thing you have and scan that first. Otherwise, just pick something and hope nobody else is scanning it. As long as we only have about 10 people scanning, this isn't a big problem. It would be a problem though if we had 50, with multiple people scanning the same magazine. I guess we'll tackle that problem when we get there
  2. This looks absolutely fantastic. I am totally excited. Triverse, do us a favor and post another bulletin when it is available for download.
  3. This is an awesome idea. I wish all games released on PC had something like that when they are released.
  4. Philly, I think you said before you have an Ipod touch. Download and install the app "Lose It". It helps you track your calories and is a real wakeup call once you see how many calories certain things are. I've lost 20 lbs since January and used to track calories using Google Docs, but "Lose It" is so much easier.
  5. IPhone for 3 reasons: 1. Iphone has touch keyboard that can be displayed in portrait or landscape mode. The Pre can be used in landscape mode but has to be turned to portrait to type. I've also read the Pre keyboard is cramped. 2. Pre has under a dozen apps at the moment. Iphone has probably close to 500K (good, bad, or ugly). Ok that is an exaggeration It says 15K above. 3. Iphone has Youtube support However, Pre does have one important advantage. You can be running multiple apps at a time. This is my only complaint about the Iphone/Ipod Touch so far.
  6. I apologize for creating the broohaha I think we all found it amusing. Anyways, is it mere coincidence that your name so closely resembles Hulk Hogan? If so, what is Hulk a nickname for?
  7. First let me say thank for your service to our country. Second, what branch of the military are you in and what type of work do you do over there?
  8. Took 4 years of college, plus I live in CA, the place where ebonics originated.
  9. Hurry up and grab it! The seller cut the price in half. O wait, it's still $6K. Nevermind.
  10. Let me see if I can translate for the Hulk. "Kevin, I'd be delighted if you were to send me some magazines to scan. Please send me a private message and we can continue our conversation."
  11. Seems like he has a ton of support. Already has over 1000 followers on twitter and he hasn't even really said anything. Should be interesting to see what happens.
  12. If the RAR format does end, we'll just use some other container for JPGs. I doubt the JPG format will ever die and if it does it will only be because there is a way to losslessly convert them to something that takes less space. It just like MP3s in that there are too many people that use them for them to ever become obsolete. Maybe when our generation dies out, they'll have something else, but at that point who cares anyways. I know I'm not taking my digital crap with me to the grave
  13. Your workflow nearly matches mine. One thing I might suggest though. Always have the same height/width for all pages. Even if you don't center the crop box in the same place on each page for whatever reason, getting the same size is important. If you don't, when opening in a comic book reader, it can look a bit funny because one page might be zoomed in more than the other. I made this mistake on my first mag scan and it did not look as pretty as subsequent ones.
  14. I am curious as to what the 4 offers were so far. I'd be surprised if any of them were over $1K, especially in this economy, but, maybe things are doing better in Canada than the US.
  15. I have Time Warner cable internet (6MB) and have absolutely zero problems. Once in a great while it goes down, but I can count those times on one hand over the last 5 years. I'd be in deep crap if we actually had limits. Between my wife and me, we probably burned through 60GB just over this 3 day weekend. I'd be very curious to see how much we use per month, but TW doesn't have any such tool. Over here, most people only have a single option, so you are lucky in that respect.
  16. I wonder if any Mario games are coming to Iphone/Ipod touch. I'd love to be able to play SMB3 without using the NES emulator.
  17. That was a pretty funny video. Can't wait to get the game so I can take candy from babies.
  18. Seriously, when my Sim has more stuff around the house than I do, there's something wrong.
  19. I don't see places like Target or Costco going out of business anytime soon so I doubt Walmart will ever become a monopoly, but I do agree that smaller places may be a thing of the past. However, the internet will always have places that carry retro games and probably have better selections. Honestly, buying online is much more appealing to me than going to Walmart. I'd much rather buy something from Amazon.com anyday. Free shipping and no tax. Can't beat it. The only brick and mortar store I'll never stop going to is Fry's, especially since they are 1 mile from my house Instant gratification almost always wins!
  20. I'm not crying a bit about Walmart's RedBox destroying places like Blockbuster. People want to be able to watch a movie and return it next day for $1. Paying $3.95 for 3 days or whatever it is now (I haven't been in a Blockbuster in 10 years) is just ridiculous. Especially in this economy, people are looking to cut corners without sacrificing their pleasures. Also, I didn't think RedBox was exclusive to Walmart. I've seen them in plenty of grocery stores by me. Why should the video game rental market be any different? It's not like you can't subscribe to FireFly (which I have no experience with) or just succumb to renting them from Walmart. They are not killing the market, they are just making it more interesting. I don't know about you, but I always look for the best price. If it's at Walmart, I'm going there.
  21. The interesting thing about the Iphone and Ipod Touch (Iphone without phone capabilities) is that it sells tons of games. I heard that Monkey Ball for Iphone sold 300K copies in the first 20 days. That's just nuts. That's why lots of companies are releasing games for the platform. It's dirty easy to download and install the game from anywhere and consumers like $5-10 games. Especially in this economy that really resonates with people. Plus, a lot of the games are actually pretty good. I bought an Ipod touch in January (because I already like my phone and didn't want to fork over extra $100/month) and it is so much more than just a media player. I haven't even uploaded any music/videos on it. I have mainly apps. It's like having a small laptop. Checking email and surfing the web are just awesome. I also use it as an ebook reader using Stanza. If I was smart I would have bought the 8GB version instead of 32GB and saved $200 because I still use my Creative 60GB.
  22. I sincerely hope so. I was looking forward to Duke Nukem Forever.
