  1. I second that. I am of the opinion that there should be a sliding scale that calculates how much you can download based on how much you either donate or contribute. By contribute I mean either scan, donate, or purchase on ebay and have sent to a scanner. For example: 1-5 magazines = $10 - 25 = 0.5GB 5-10 magazines = $25- 50 = 1GB 10-25 magazines = $50 - $100 = 2GB 25-infinity = > $100 5GB The GB numbers are probably off, but you get what I mean. I totally understand Kiwi's remark because it usually takes anywhere from 3-6 hours, start to finish, to contribute 1 mag. Keep up the good work Kiwi!
  2. Sounds like a nice place to live. It also drives me crazy when tax money (my money) is spent on crap like that. Things like museums and art galleries should be privately funded.
  3. They need to do one on the JFK assassination and prove once and for all it was only Oswald.
  4. Socially liberal or financially liberal? Shows how much I don't know about Ottawa. Only thing I could find on google was that your property taxes are about 1%, which matches California. How much do you need to make there (before taxes) to live comfortably (meaning owning a house)? Is the housing market tanking there like it is in California (down 40% in last 2 years)? I hope it goes down another 100K so I can get something reasonable Mythbusters has to be one of the coolest shows ever.
  5. Good point. We haven't exactly been good examples of "small government" the last 8 years. If you do have to claim political exile, California is a wonderful place to live A little expensive, but you can get away with not running both the AC or heater 95% of the year. However, I do plan to visit Canada sometime in my lifetime. You are probably right about his conspiracy theories. I just didn't want to go there without giving him first a chance to respond. I wonder if he can shed any "light" on the 911 conspiracies or that the NWO runs the world.
  6. Since I am no expert on the world banks, is it true that most political leaders are backed by the world banks? If so, isn't it kinda pointless to get upset about something that will never change? Also, I would be interested in seeing some credible articles on ties between the election candidates and the world banks.
  7. I would have to agree with you. How come you are living up in Canada and not in the states?
  8. This is true. Not quite sure how I feel about the electoral college, but my point was more about the moderate viewpoint is usually the one that wins out because most people agree with it. Both candidates like to describe their differences, but I doubt much will change if either one of them gets elected. Fringe viewpoints only appeal to a fraction of the population, which is why a fringe candidate (Green, Libertarian, etc) will never be elected.
  9. By the way it is "Obama and McCain" and not "oboma and mckain" unless there is some hidden reference that completely went over my head. And yes, a lot of their policies will be the same. The reason for that is because they need to appeal to a broad base and not the fringe. The fringe might be right, but it is majority wins.
  10. We actually do have the WIP (work in progress) tracking system here: www.retromags.com/wip. This has a listing of about 20 different magazines and what is completed, currently being worked on, or missing.
  11. Another thing I found to save me TONS of time is to have the rectangular crop set to "Fixed Size" and use it for every page. This way you don't have to worry about scanning the page exactly the same. This saves time on scanning because you can just throw the page on and scan without aligning or putting into a template. Then, I just rotate later using the horizontal crop (called Single Row Marquee Tool). Another thing that makes the workflow faster is doing the same action for all pages. This eliminates the need for switching between the different tools for each page. My flow: 1. Scan all pages 2. Rotate each page 3. Use rectangular crop at a fixed size (this sometimes has to be adjusted because the earlier and later pages in an issue tend to be a little wider. This probably is only the case for the staple bound issues) 4. Batch resize, save and close (go to File -> Automate -> Batch and then select the action)
  12. Open all the files in PS and then create an action for resizing, saving, and closing the image. This way it uses the currently selected image, which will change when the previous image closes. I used to use the ruler tool, but now I use the horizontal line crop option to figure out if I have to rotate left or right. Then I use actions that either rotate .2% clockwise or counterclockwise. Also, it is much easier, and faster, to use that horizontal tool to determine if the page even has to be rotated. Also, I can blaze through them about 1 every 5-10 seconds.
  13. If you have PhotoShop, use that because it will make the scanning chore faster. You can also import, rotate, and resize using losslessly, which is important.
  14. What isn't to love about Super Metroid? That is one of the only games I play all the way through about once a year. I consider it one of the best games ever made.
  15. You have way more creativity than me. Put together a few and I'll help choose. I think I am close to 50 anyways
  16. In all seriouslness, I actually do miss my "Premium Scanner" blue button. Also Philly, you better get that "Scanning God" button ready because I think Meppi is really close to 50 uploads.
  17. Hm, I think the damage is already done. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw?url=s...p;x=19&y=16 Also, likes like 30 people are already trying to sell their copy on Amazon.com. I hope they didn't install it on 3 PCs already, or the copy they sell is basically worthless. What a mess. I hope that Sims 3 doesn't have this crap in it or I will be forced to get a bootleg copy.
  18. Try ebay. I checked and someone is selling an August 2008 issue. Email them and ask when a Nov 2008 issue is available.
  19. I downloaded it and will use it for a week to see if it behaves better than firefox. So far, firefox has been awesome, except when i load it with like 25 tabs and it sometimes crashes. Also, until it has extensions, like firefox has , it really is no competition. I do however, like the way you can view which tabs (websites) are hogging all your memory. I sometimes see firefox with over 200MB consumed and wonder which of my 25 sites is causing the mayhem.
  20. I have GamePro January 1994 and if you want, I can put it on my scanning list to be next. I should have GamePro May 1992 uploaded later on tonight. Some people want to hold onto the physical copies while I would rather scan them and throw them out. Digital will always preserve better than paper anyways Plus I need the space.
  21. Philly was right. The Thank You page with all the magazines around it looks way cool. Again, awesome job. I will definitely be using that next time I upload.
  22. Are you accepting donations? I may have a few of these lying around and if I ever want to play them, I'll use the PC with an emulator. Especially now since they have adapters so you can use the console's controller
  23. Where do you live? We might be able to send over a retromags rep to your house and help "remove" the magazines Either that, or give a general list of what years for what mags and we can probably foot the bill for fedexing them to the site's scanners.
