Don't worry about. I get a little sick of the fanboy noise some people around here make every time E-Day releases an issue but when I release issues, even those too new to be made available here, there's a deafening silence. As I said, I have plenty of other magazines to scan in my collection so I'm calling time on these two titles. People can wait for E-Day to release the issues I have in my collection sometime in the future when the year restrictions have moved. If he has them of course ....

Geez!!! Everyone sounds like it's Xmas or something. I released this issue at OGM back in January. Obviously no-one around here visits my site so I guess I'm just going to not bother scanning any more GamePro or EGM from here on out. That's fine with me. I have plenty of other stuff to work on.

I debind, scan then compile the mag into a PDF, check that the pages match then throw the mag in the recycling bin. No keeping mags around here. I'm trying to reduce the weight on my house foundations, not shift the piles around. If the mag has gate-fold pages I scan the double pages as a single page so that I can keep them displayed as the three page format in the PDF but it does require additional work. Pain in the ass they are .....

Some time ago I received GamePro issue 135 circa Dec 1999 from one of my scanning members. I think it was an early scan of theirs as there were a few problems (vertical scanning lines, non-straight pages etc) but it was certainly okay for reading to my mind. Well, I forgot I had it and recently scanned my copy of the magazine. After I saw the error of my ways I compared both copies and mine is better IMO so I have replaced it with the new version. Feel free to grab it and, if acceptable, convert it to CBR format and make it available here as it is currently classified as "Missing". Note: This is issue 125 in Retromags numbering parlance. Additionally, there appeared to be a fold out supplement between pages 80-89 which was missing in both copies. My copy still had the perforated attachment suggesting a gate-fold poster of some description.

Computer Games: Strategy Plus issue 13 is now available at OGM. This is currently the earliest issue I possess and I also think it is the earliest issue to be scanned as well. I certainly haven't seen any of the earlier issues in my internet travels to date ...

Holy crap!!! I somehow missed seeing that directory all this time I'll download them all and add them to the huge pile of "to be edited" scans.

Anyone remember Windows ME? If you don't now you can acquaint yourself with Microsoft's worst operating system release of all time thanks to the availability of PC Format issue 113.
-
I personally have lately been adopting the Vol.01-05 format. No need in my mind to include "i" for issue number. Just makes it messy to read.
-
True. For my personal copies I like to do that. Another issue is the fact that I release files in PDF format over at OGM and I also convert Retromags releases to PDF as well. Add to that the fact that I grab marktrade's Archive.org releases directly and it will make for the software having a hard time working out my collection.

You're welcome. I was and still am into flight sim style games although in truth I'm much more into Battlefield style air combat now than the heavier sim titles. My Falcon 4.0 deluxe edition is still on my shelf but hasn't been opened in a decade ...

Also available today is PC Format issue 12 ....

Computer Games issue 139 is now available at OGM

Having the Volume Issue number means you don't need the second month in the date field
-
If the issue number is available you could simply use the first month as the subsequent issue number will be displayed on the following release, e.g, GamePro (1998-08) 150 GamePro (1998-10) 151 If issue numbers are not used by the publication it probably needs to be denoted as: GamePro (1998-08/09) GamePro (1998-10/11) .... simply to denote the fact it is bi-monthly. In reality most all magazines have SOME sort of numbering convention (Vol/Issue, issue number) making this somewhat redundant but it is worth agreeing on a format for bi-monthly weirdo's to keep everyone compliant. UPDATE. Forgot that "/" is an unacceptable character for naming conventions so I think I used "0809" or "08-09"
-
Yeah, but there's no real need to apply two naming conventions as the only thing questionable is the numbering right? If you apply a name followed by a date everything else is negotiable as the date becomes the single biggest factor in ordering. As I see it you could have: GamePro (1998-08) 150 .... if the number is displayed on the cover OR GamePro (1998-08) .......... if the number isn't listed anywhere so needs investigating or is a special in which case it becomes GamePro (1998-08) Special Ed ... or something to that effect In either case the issue will still order before the (1998-09) issue so still displays in the logical release order
-
As I have said all along, I prefer the naming convention along the lines <Name> (<date in yyyy-mm-(dd if weekly)>) (Issue number if known). An example is: GamePro (2000-11) 153.pdf Where they have specials or Xmas releases (as Future do) they would take the format .... Edge (2011-Xmas) 180.pdf This ensures that specials are ordered by release date rather than trying to impose some numbering convention in the event they didn't actually receive an issue number as the GamePro specials did. I adopted this format over at OGM to ensure my GamePro issues reflect the issue number on the cover. This solves issues around confusion for visitors thinking they are downloading issue 160 when the cover says 150. It also solve issues around magazines that changed their numbering convention from say, a Vol. Issue format to pure numbering at a later date as ordering is done by date. I agree with marktrade that using hyphens is old school. To my way of thinking if someone is using some system esoteric enough in this day and age to not be able to deal with a space that's their problem, not mine.

Seeing as it's listed in the magazine database I thought I'd throw this into my W.I.P. Issue 11 of PC Format is now available at OGM. The early releases of this title had significant game coverage. This issue is no exception ...

Requesting Game Informer Scans for Academic Research Project
KiwiArcader replied to jslebach's topic in Magazine Talk
I'm doing a research project on Penthouse and Playboy. Could someone scan the covers and all the "pictorial" pages? Seriously though their website has a reviews section with game reviews going back to 2005 and if you own an iPad you can grab complete issues back to 2012 for reasonable prices. Unfortunately, I think those "in stock" issues are print magazines. I don't believe they have digital issues otherwise they wouldn't have gaps in their offerings or would be offering them within the iPad app. It's a shame they are so vocal about sites like our scanning them (a quick C&D arrives if we do) as I have a pile of them I'd like to scan but I can't be bothered as only I could read them.- 5 replies
