I know. I understand that they released 10 issues classified as specials so there is an inconsistency in the numbering but in my mind if they say it's issue 137 on the cover I am going to call it issue 137. That's why the date is in my naming convention before the issue number. It becomes irrelevant where the specials reside and so on simply by sorting by date. They just slot in with special in the name rather than an issue number thus numbering is preserved and aligned with the actual cover numbering. AND ..... you're welcome

Heinlein didn't do much for me either when it comes to Sci-Fi. I prefer Clarke, Greg Bear and Larry Niven in that genre. I didn't particularly like Laymon's Beast House series. As far as horror goes I much prefer Graham Masterton as an author. The Sphinx was a standout title for me, not because she had six breasts mind you, although that was rather erotic I have to admit, but because he really does weave interesting tales based upon mythical societies etc which leaves you wondering whether there's even a grain of truth to them. On a side note to this interesting topic, another question if you will? More like a sub-question really ..... do you read novels on an e-reader (Kindle), tablet (iPad, Surface, Galaxy) or do you prefer reading them the old fashioned way?

My faves, in no particular order would be: Fiction Elfstones of Shannara ... THE book to get if you are into fantasy (don't get me started on the MTV abortion of that book on TV recently) Rendezvous with Rama ... Arthur C. Clarke's take on human insignificance Body Rides ... Richard Laymon. You tend to like him or hate him. I like this particular one of his.... Non-Fiction The Golden Horseshoe ... bio by the king of submarine warfare Otto Kretschmer. I Flew for the Fuhrer ... bio by a Luftwaffe ace and unique perspective of those harrowing times from the other side. Read the UK version though. The USA version was edited for political correctness The Royal Tombs of Egypt ... if you want to see the art on the tombs of the pharaohs and considering several of the tombs are closed to the public for good in an effort to preserve them this is THE book to get Death in the Long Grass .... Game hunting in Africa during the sixties and seventies, an age when hunting was a way of keeping numbers down and generating serious income for the country. Poaching subsequently ruined all of that in an incredibly short period of time.

RETRO Magazine (Has anyone been able to get a PDF for issue #10?
KiwiArcader replied to spoonman's topic in Magazine Talk
Thirty two issues between 1-83 are available over at my website. Issues from 84 onward are available on iTunes via Pixelmags Readr application. -
Okay. Quick update on the status of Computer Games: Strategy Plus. Cameron's got back to me and shipping the mags is definitely still on. Just working through the process of costing out shipping a couple of different size boxes to New Zealand. Then it's just a case of PAYPAL'ing him the money for the shipping price that I can afford and hopefully the requisite box arrives a couple of weeks later. Now if I could just get my brother to sort out the same for those PC Gamer (USA) mags he has at his house in MD......

I hope I never have to scan something this big ever again. EVER!!!!

RETRO Magazine (Has anyone been able to get a PDF for issue #10?
KiwiArcader replied to spoonman's topic in Magazine Talk
Definitely from Games tm as you can see from the "The ultimate retro companion from Games tm" in upper right corner. The monthly issue has a Retro section and it's pretty darned nice actually. These are pretty much just compilations of that retro section for people wanting just the retro content. No new content at all so if you have the monthly issues you have this content. In the Readr iPad app they sometimes appear as specials under the retro gamer section as well. -
Agreed. Totally and utterly!!! If you are doing the whole color thing for yourself that's great. Don't go beating yourself up over what anyone else thinks or even over what you think they think. I have a line through my scans due to dirt inside the scanning element. I could spend a LOT of money getting the scanner serviced but donations don't cover 10% of what it would probably cost and I am not going to spend food money just so people can say "his scans are really clean". My wife would divorce me if I did that anyway. I think you need to take the same attitude with the color thing. Will people look at your scans and say thanks for getting color calibrated when their tablets etc probably aren't up to the level to see the difference anyway? My advice is just take it easy and go with the flow.

Don't worry. I didn't think for a minute that was the case anyway. And I totally agree that if he doesn't come back so we can get these preserved it would indeed be a shame given the lack of them preserved at the present time. The balls in his court though so we wait and see if it pans out. I asked for a price to ship so I have an understanding of the costs. Until he provides it I have no idea if current donations will cover all or a percentage of it. I'll definitely keep you posted if I hear anything. They're nice mags so yeah, I am dead keen to see more of them too

I hasn't fallen through, but I haven't heard anything back from him either. So it's largely a wait and see if anything comes of it game at the present time. Eleven issues released is eleven more than zero though ....

New Release: PC Accelerator Issue 1 (September 1998)

By the sound of it the mag was first published as Strategy Plus before becoming Computer Games Strategy Plus then later Computer Games but I have no idea on when the name changes took place. I do have a member of my site who says he has almost a complete collection which he wants a hand with funds to help send them to me for scanning though so if I can sort it we might have a lot of these coming my way hopefully.

Computer Games: Strategy Plus issue 23 is now available over at OGM. Love that cover!!

If you look at the last few mags I have created you will find I have included the fold out double pages as a single page but duplicated the facing page on both the facing single side and the double to try and show the "correct" way it is displayed when viewing the print copy. Blimey, that sentence was verbal garbage.... I agree it results in smaller display of the pages in two page display mode on the PC when you have essentially three pages displaying at once but it is more accurate to the print copy. I guess you're damned if you do it that way and damned if you don't in regard to authentic representation of the print version if you don't.
