  1. I couldn't think of anything worse than sitting there reading mags in my own stench. Heaven forbid spending any more time in there than I absolutely have to after the wifes been either. Yikes!!!
  2. I still think Super Mario 64 is/was the high point for Nintendo. Sure, I got the Gamecube and the Wii but nothing on those really affected me like Mario's N64 in terms of sheer wonder and delight. Maybe I was older and more jaded so everything just felt like a rehash, even Mario Galaxy. The fact I still play Mario 64 on an emulator regularly tells me that at the very least 1996 was a great time for Nintendo Then again, nothing at all has made me want to buy any model of PlayStation. And I have an Xbox 360 and an Xbox One and they're pretty much gathering dust.
  3. I too don't feel much of anything for my mags any more. They're just a means to read the content. Really, it's what's ON the page that has any relevance. The convenience of having 100 mags in a one pound iPad far outweighs the feel factor, and the weight, of holding the equivalent mags in my arms.
  4. It could be the person listed them at a lower price then someone they know wanted them so they put the price up high as heck to put off potential bidders and let the auction run its course. I've seen that before. Rather than incur delisting fees they just make it a guaranteed no-sale through high pricing. Speaking of high prices, take a look at this .... Club Nintendo Issue 01 ... http://www.trademe.co.nz/gaming/other-nintendo/other/auction-1057653131.htm Looks to still have the middle poster pages etc. But man, what a price.....
  5. I have a 450 page issue of PC Gamer (USA) on my desk waiting for debinding.....
  6. Now that I have gotten over my Areala fixation I think if I could talk to two people they would be: My great, great grandmother. She came to New Zealand from Prussia in the 1890's but never spoke of her family at all so we have no idea on our family roots on my mothers side other than they were born or lived in Kirschkau and that when looking at Holocaust records for people from that area with her family name they ended up in Stuthoff Concentration camp. Getting family names from her would allow my mother some sense of closure by being able to ascertain if any relatives survived. Germany/Poland is so far away and she isn't physically able to make a trip to the other side of the world now. My son, but that's a conversation much too difficult to go into here
  7. Yep. I don't do any downsizing for most all scans I make except those PC Gamer (USA) or other issues which exceed 300+ pages in size. If I don't downsize those they end up being HUGE!!! My target is to keep PDF's under 400MB, preferably under 350MB. You can't do that when you have 350 page monsters if you keep them full size.
  8. Okay, I REALLY want to meet Areala now that I know she looks like Gal Gadot's Wonder Woman but with strawberry blonde locks. OMG!!!!!!
  9. No worries. As I said, people can edit the heck out of them if they like. I'm sure E-day or one of yourselves will come along with a new user scan at some point to replace it. This gives members some light reading until that happens
  10. 1,589 downloads

Donated by OGM. Converted from pdf to cbr and resized to 2200 constant pixel height.
  11. You can do whatever you like with them. As I've said previously, if people want to edit my mags they can go for it. Some people have contributed entire collections of mags to another site in the belief they will be scanned but their desire for cleaning up scans is so over the top that it seems like they only release a dozen mags a year. If I did that I'd need to live until 300 to finish the collection. Obviously barring some sort of miracle cure for old age that isn't going to happen so at the moment for me it's all about getting my collection scanned and out there. Better to do that and give others the opportunity to fiddle than not at all.
  12. That's not a problem. I haven't even been doing that with any of his scans either anyway
  13. I personally scanned issues 141 & 153 along with all other issues on my site except 116. I've let Jason who scanned that issue know that I have made offer of USA based mags on OGM to be made available here given this sites predominant preoccupation with your local mags, and as marktrade and yourself have said you have no issues making your scanned content available over at my site if I want to, so I see it as a purely logical way of ensuring content is preserved and prospering good relationships between the sites. He had no issues with this. Even Phillyman has made similar comments in the past. If in doubt as long as oldgamemags is credited then I see no issue if someone wants to put our USA content online here. In fact there is nothing to prevent Phillyman from taking ALL the content from my site and making it available here, and vice versa. Such is the way of the Internet, the last Wild West if you will. We make a conscious choice not to do so other than for specific content to help each other out. Such is mutual respect. Regarding restrictions on downloading etc, I like to think if people like what we are doing they will contribute in some way or another towards OGM. That hasn't happened. That's life. I just want to make sure the download server isn't affected by high usage. If I ever managed to get enough donations in place I would like to purchase IP.Board forum software (Retromags uses it) so that rather than penalize non-donators I could look at rewarding active contributors with access to new content locally rather than via 3rd party hosting, allowing scanning members access to content pools so that we can scan newer content for the day when it can be made available and they can easily see what has been scanned/ not scanned etc.
  14. I'd probably want to meet Areala to see if the Warrior Nun is as pretty as my mind paints her out to be. Her internal beauty however, offsets any chance of my expectations being affected no matter the outcome as we all know that is more important than anything else. Although if she were to look like Matilda May in Lifeforce or Leigh Lombardi in Moontrap I'd probably need a box of umm .... no comment ....
  15. I just realised that issue 141 along with 116 of EGM that are available on OGM are now able to be hosted here on Retromags thanks to the date changes if someone wants to do the upload thing
  16. EGM issue 153 is now available over at OGM. Release date for this particular issue is April 2002 so a little too new to be hosted here but I'm sure someone will grab it for the day when it can be hosted here right?
  17. I cannot tell you how happy the wifey has been since I started scanning and throwing out a bag of magazines into recycling every other week since I got the Fujitsu 5650c. It's fast and furious. And as the guys on my site have scanned issues I own I just check theirs to see if my cover is in better nick than theirs or use mine to fill in pages they were missing that I might still have (think missing posters in the middle of the mag) and then I throw those out too The basement is slowly clearing out. Only 1200 odd mags to go ...... maybe ..... Damn. I forgot the 200 Look & Learn issues I bought recently.......
  18. I have to say I'm with kitsunebi77 on this one. I scan mine and tend to keep them as scanned for everything but the cover pages where I apply a tiny amount of color correction so the colors to my eyes look the same as the hard copy. No scientific analysis, just how I think it compares. I am too darned old and have way, way too many mags to scan. If I do what Meppi does over at OoPA I might only get 10% of my mags scanned in what's left of my life. I'd rather scan and get them out there for others to play around with. Anything I put out is way better than Mort's scans which are the defacto, read only, UK content available in most cases so I take the opinion people would rather see bulk scans in good readable quality than a few scans in uber quality. Maybe I'm wrong though if donations to my site are anything to go by.......
  19. The problem is that shedloads of UK mags have been scanned in the past by Mort but they just aren't very good. In all fairness to him scanners in the day were , well, rubbish really, compared to todays monsters like the one marktrade has in his arsenal and I also think he was just wanting to pump them out in a small size due to bandwidth restrictions of the day so his 20-30mb files are never going to compare to our 200-400mb sized files in quality, the distribution of which is made possible by todays broadband. I have a lot of respect for his tenacity taking on such a job in those days. Hell, it's still a mission today right? However, marktrade makes a good point in his thread about scanning your own mags. No-one on another site can come bitchin' at you for 'stealing' their work if you scan your own mags. Or having to deal with watermarks or any other unsavory processes someone else might apply thinking they are making it better. Meppi's work over at OoPA is an example. He spends what I would term an inordinate amount of time cleaning them up to the point where they look like brand new digital files which is fine. He can do absolutely whatever he feels like with his scans. However, I feel that as I am scanning paper based mags that they should look like, well, copies of paper based mags as for me they reflect what I had in my hands during the day, paper weave and all. Scanning your own mags allows you to process them to your own satisfaction and if someone else doesn't like them well, too bad.
  20. I'm still waiting for that deluge of Mac stuff to come my way. You've got all sidetracked on all that Nextgen. LOL Seriously though, I have hundreds of UK mags waiting for the time I can get around to scanning them. You scanning a few will save me some time for sure
  21. If the MARKMAN wants to scan his early editions because he feels he can do a better job creating issues that are better than what is already available then by golly, just let him do it. If he's a little OCD about it so what right? Ultimately people have a choice on whether they want to download a different version or not so no real harm in it other than possibly some "umming and ahhing" over the pros and cons causing mild headache in some people with a low broadband usage disposition.
  22. Here I am steering clear of scanning USA mags or letting you host them and here you are, encroaching on my territory. This means WAR dammit .... WAR I tell you!!!
  23. So my guess is you've been downloading/leeching all issues off my website (OldGameMags) and now you want to fill in the missing issues by asking here, on a predominantly USA title based website, where the only copies available here are those I submitted here before creating my own site? Geez!!! Don't you think if one of the few people who actually do the scanning here had these they would have put them online by now? I actually have issue 241 in my pile of scans to be processed but truthfully I am in no particular hurry to scan it when my sites scanning members (Gladiator, Jason and myself) have between us scanned most all the missing issues from 118 upwards and received very little in the way of thanks/donations as a thank you for all our hard work. It will be done when it's done.
  24. Personally, I think it's very similar in layout and style to the early to middle age Computer Gaming World issues, which may be why I like them, and now, this thanks to marktrade and his wonderfully diverse magazine collection
