  1. Anything dated 2000 or later can't be used here at the present time but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be retained for the day when we are allowed to make later submissions. EG, at some point we may be allowed to host 2001 content for example. I would hate to see any of those you listed being just dumped to be honest.
  2. Geez .... don't take my comments as gospel .... only Mister Zero has commented here other than myself so that doesn't reflect everyone's thoughts. LOL Seriously .... as long as people get their expectations set properly from the get-go then they go in with donating knowing what to expect.
  3. Fair enough. Of course we all saw the commotion caused by some people recently over contributions made where mags hadn't been released? I just hope that sort of thing doesn't rear it's ugly head over here if you used funds to purchase a collection for this site. That whole "He hoards all the mags for himself" thing was soo annoying .....
  4. Hence the comments Seriously ....don't get me wrong ...the idea sounds great but it does to my mind add an element of stress when you start taking contributions from people that are going expect to get something back for their generosity. By stress I mean that it does result in a bundle of mags sitting there on YOUR floor requiring scanning etc along with any you already have. I have 1000+ mags yet to be scanned and I just went and purchased another 15 Amstrad CPC mags because they were cheap but now I have 1015+ to scan/edit. Actually .... I forgot I bought 70+ PC Gamer mags recently ... make that 1090 odd mags .... If you can make it work then go for it.
  5. The problem with this E-Day, is that it throws the onus upon oneself ... namely you ... to manage the bidding, purchase and scanning etc of the mags unless you obtain enough funds to then forward them to someone else to take on the scanning side of it. With attendant risks that they may not arrive ..or that the receiver may or may not process them in a reasonable timeframe. Or not at all ..... If the slush fund was used to reimburse someone that had bid/ won auctions and who then fronted with finished mags that might be an alternate solution ... but my purchases might not be what most people want to contribute towards for example ...so then you have issues around deciding how to disperse funds without creating annoyances to the contributors. Or having issues with people buying stuff but getting nothing to help out for their time/efforts. All very messy .... great idea .... just messy. As soon as money becomes involved it takes it out of the realms of hobby and turns it into a business in some ways ....
  6. Nope .... still available on one site I occasionally visit :-)
  7. The complete run of RAZE can be found on some torrent sites .... I have them all ..... but the quality is nowhere near as nice as the OoPA issue that has been recently released. Hopefully, they'll release more as time goes on ...
  8. If I can afford it I want to buy one of those "New Dreamcast" consoles on E-Bay more than I want a "new" console to be honest. RETRO all the way for me .... unless that fiery bird you keep harping on about is a reference to SEGA resurrecting the Dreamcast in which case I would be interested.
  9. The Dreamcast kicked the PS2's ass graphically. It was piss poor marketing on SEGA's part that had a big hand in its demise. Soul Calibur on Dreamcast is still considered by a lot of people to be the best fighting game ever released. Personally ..... if I were SEGA I would look at re-releasing it but using a DVD drive for cheaper drive costs/manufacturing etc. The graphics are still more than competitive even today .. Still .... I don't think they will release a new console .....
  10. Well ... I am a Teamie and when I visit that site I do not see the Megaupload Dropbox at the present time so maybe it's just busted? I remember E-Day saying he was making easier for everyone to be able to submit mags etc so would've thought that page is visible to everyone now [even though it says Teamies/Mods only]
  11. That might be because you need a certain access level to use that facility .... Team Member or Mod maybe?
  12. I was thinking of getting an iPad in a couple of weeks but am now reconsidering that decision due to the limited storage space on the thing and the difficulty of getting content onto the device when away from a PC. Read that as ... WTF didn't they include a SD card reader in the device? Or .... WTF do they limit the ability to read PDF's etc off the SD camera adapter? Or WTF didn't they include USB/mini-USB? Apple are simply too draconian for my liking and jailbreaking isn't my idea of fun in the event of a warranty issue. Due to the above I am now considering getting an Acer Tablet simply because it is so much easier to take content with me. And although it may be a 11.6" widescreen LED monitor I'll put up with that limitation for the 250gb HDD storage space which can be easily expanded if required.

    WTF? :/

And so the cycle goes on .... and on ...

    WTF? :/

Like the American guy who flew to Afghanistan to fight with the "enemy" and who is now sitting in a US prison? What exactly is a real American anyway? Just curious how you define that ....
  15. Well ... intelligent conversation on the merits/disadvantages etc is altogether different from the rubbish some people around here were spewing out a little while ago. Anyways ..... I look at the differences something like this ..... RISC User magazine ..... half a dozen people download to date = little to no potential loss of income Uncle Scrooge Comic ..... bazillions of downloads = potentially a LOT of money lost to the owners of the content. Substitute Uncle Scrooge for Batman, Avengers, Snagglepuss .... whatever .... the reality is that comics by their very nature tend to retain their popularity over far greater periods of time therefore as publishers move into thinking of providing digital content the illicit copying of that original content is more likely to impact their bottom line than 20 year old gaming mags. The only thing I will say is that Anime/Manga has pushed it's way into all parts of the world popularity-wise for a long while now and as a result if publishers are going to refrain from thinking globally and target all the markets that desire their product then they are pretty much creating the conditions for people to rip/dub/subtitle their content. Same goes for releasing movies/TV in the USA six moths ahead of everywhere else because in the case of movies they only want to master 1000 reels etc. The internet has changed the rules on global distribution so they need to wake up to the fact and start thinking globally rather than market specific.
  16. That's how most people feel. I'd rather contribute legally that illegally. That's why I appreciate it when someone gets a publisher allowing this sort of thing. Simple things like legitimacy of the cause, ownership. common decency and so on are lost on one or two people unfortunately
  17. Theft is Theft. Period!!! I for one appreciate that I don't have to worry about it for some content. You want to be a thief ... go right ahead. Just don't expect everyone to agree with your principle that everything should just be stolen and made available everywhere. I'd like to see you blubbering like a baby when someone comes along and ransacks your house and steals your personal property. But hey .... everythings fair game right? What's the difference between digital and physical after all? Anyway ...why even start this drivel up again? Sure didn't take long ....
  18. This sort of thing is EXACTLY the reason everyone should appreciate the guys at OoPA who worked to get publishers onboard and agreeing to let us preserve their magazines .... legally!!! No matter what you may think of them .... and I've had my share of discontent with those guys in the past I freely admit .... they have at the end of the day given some legitimacy to our cause. That's why I have started scanning content for them .... I appreciate that for some content we no longer need to be concerned that we'll get told to take it down so it's worth investing time helping make that content available for people to enjoy. The BIG difference between us and SCANLATIONS is that comics never really age or go out of fashion while gaming mags suffer the effects of the discontinuation of the systems themselves so while a gaming mag publisher "may" accept that us scanning 20 year old mags is okay as they can't make anything much off them the comic publishers can certainly see how it can affect their chances of digital distribution profits over long periods of time.
  19. Excellent stuff. If I were you I'd still scan all the post-2000 stuff after the pre-2000 stuff anyway as as some point the cut-off year will change so having them scanned ahead of time is prudent. The benefit of that is you can still take them and read them on your iPad when holidaying in the Bahama's too
  20. The problem for me is the horrific cost of international postage to my part of the world
  21. I had a LOT of Disney's Uncle Scrooge comics. And while they aren't comics I also had many issues of "Famous Monsters of Filmland" right from issue 1 all of which I threw out in the rubbish when I got married. Considering the worth of those things nowadays I'm sore from kicking myself now.
