  8. Yeah .... I wanted to get the PSM mags .... but none of the To Be Deleted issues are available in the directory. Sigh!!! What you should do is set up a section for the Contributors who scan mags ONLY to have access, eg , paying members aren't even allowed access ... where Scanners can upload the new magazines so that you dont lose these over time but where they can also obtain a mag they dont have. Then you have a system that still benefits people making the effort while not compromising the site from a public perspective. The reason I like this is that most new issues are available elsewhere anyway but we make a bigger effort to clean our scans up so our quality is better IMHO and the scanners should be rewarded a little extra over everyone else for the efforts put into making the site what it is. Just my opinion though ....
  9. I'm betting that the VC would become a lot more usable when Nintendo release firmware to allow playing VC games directly off SD card as the storage space on the Wii is quite limited and with the size of N64 games being what they are it isn't long before you cannot install any more without removing something else. I think they did that to stop people converting standard Roms and dropping them onto an SD card but it certainly hasn't stopped the hackers from cracking the Wii and getting VC game copies running .... or Iso images for that matter. In fact ... apart from the Dreamcast it's the only other console that doesn't need a modchip or some Crazy Ivan gadget to open drive bays etc. Wow!!! What they need to do is find some way for us retrogamers with truckloads of original carts to plug them into a USB hardware dongle and legally play the games we already own on the VC rather than making pay again and again for things we already own. $10 charged for a game you have an original cart for already seems excessive and I'm sure it limits the volume of sales considerably especially when factoring in that when your Wii dies you lose those games unless you can convince Nintendo to change the ownership to a new Wii console. And making the VC run Roms via USB gets past the licensing issue for case like Banjo Kazooie and would make the Wii the complete Nintendo replacement console. Never happen of course .... but nice to dream.
  10. Holy cow!!! Better grab those PSM mags before they disappear then :-) Seriously though .... I guess this action was inevitable considering the lifespan of the newer consoles is far, far longer than the older models due to advances in graphics/CPU horsepower etc. Look at the PS2 .... almost 10 years since its introduction. So magazines for these are hard to be called retro.
  11. Wow!!! I hope that wasn't aimed at me. I like the site colours etc as they stand but I have to say I just liked the previous layout of the magazine download area personally compared to the current as it looks very cluttered .... and my points about Computer vs console mags I feel is quite valid. But it isn't my site and what you guys do with it is entirely your business. Meppi made a comment and some of us were concerned enough to offer opinions. Sorry for that ..... wont happen again .....
  12. Too cluttered in its present form.
  13. At this site they prefer .cbr files which are rar or zip files as it's relatively simple and zero cost to create them. PDF's are a different matter though. I personally use Adobe Acrobat Pro to create PDF's as it's simply a case of telling it to create a file from multiple jpgs and away it goes. For a cost of course. Abobe products aren't cheap but I have a work license so it didn't cost me anything. There are freeware alternatives like CutePDF but most are plugin style and require you to use a program that allows printing to actually create the PDF so I guess you'd probably need to be able to import all the jpg files into the program in order to get the file you want. Of course, if you have some internet searching skills and aren't overly moralistic then you have enough information to find everything you need to accomplish the task.
  14. Don't take this the wrong way Meppi .... just an opinion after all .... but .... I think the categorising of magazines by place of origin is just plain unwieldy as you have PC/Computer based magazines merged with hardcore gamer mags etc and really ... the audiences for PS2 mags vs Zzap64 etc are vastly different. Thus it means a lot trawling through the site looking for your particular mag & that assumes you know it came from USA or GB or wherever etc in the first place. What about mags reprinted in other countries for instance? Dunno .... just my opinion and it's not worth much after all anyway. And yeah ... I know lots of mags have stuff from both PC's and consoles but there must be a better way than how it's done currently. Maybe Computer vs General vs Console or Company specific?
  15. Street Fighter games never, ever entered my mind as far as games I want go .... apart from Soul Edge/Calibur I can't stand them. Sorry ... hehe ... couldn't stand them on the Dreamcast either. I did obtain a few weeks ago some non-Jamma PCB's cheaply. The working ones are quite esoteric ... Donkey Kong Jr, Car Action, Zippy Race, Battles[Xevious clone], Kungfu Master to name a few. I have got the cabinet being cut at the present time off the templates for the Taito trimline I created. Ad yep ... Donkey Kong Jr looks fabulous colorwise on the LCD monitor :-) Also got a U.N Squadron JAMMA to go with my Raiden Fighters which is working perfectly so I'm pretty happy with that one too. But the Donkey Kong Jr is going into the first cabinet. I have wired it so I can use any PCB in the cabinet using identically wired plugs so it isn't an issue as long as I know the correct pinout on the PCB. Thanks for the offer on some JAMMA pcb's but I'm guessing even the postage costs alone to New Zealand would be horrendous on top of what you might want for a PCB considering the way the NZ $ is looking against the US $ currently. Sucks badly living on the edge of the world .... Sigh!!! If the convertor blows I'll get a different model and if that craps out too I'll probably MAME it. Not going back to tube monitors again ... too scary ... or I might look at one of those expensive arcade LCD's that do 15khtz natively.
  16. I personally purchased original N64 boxes/games and created scans for over 200 N64 games on that site for the Universal game cases sold by places like mediashelving. In the case of the N64 boxes we scanned front, back and one spine and apart from the N64 logo on the spine they are perfect copies of the originals. In the case of DS/GBA boxes I think they are 100% but I haven't really contributed there as I am okay doing this for older systems no longer made/supported but didn't feel comfortable with it for newer systems. there are people making custom covers though ... and some are very nice indeed
  17. Just received a box with a heap of Atari ST Format's and almost as many Atari User mags ... some are later than the issues provided by Mort ... I saw issue 58 at a quick glance for instance. Also some other Atari ST mags ...STart [2] and a few others. When I replace my scanner I'll get onto scanning them up for the site. May be a little while though :-(
  18. From memory I have 3 or 4 of those early issues sitting on my shelf in mint condition too. Nice mags ... lovely paper ... a real shame to slice them alright. The local distibutor canned getting them over here in NZ after a few issues. The price and low sales as a result I think ....
  19. Another 32 issues completed!!! UPDATE: The rest are now done. Mark this lot off as "completed"
  20. No worries. 2002 & 2003 are now completed as well. Maybe I should leave the rest for someone needing the download points :-)
  21. With the exception of 1 issue I've done all of 1997 - 2001 for you [59 issues]. Hope that helps ....
  22. Wow!!! That's great. Wonder if he'd upload a few Computer Gamer issues ... the ones I am missing? And Atari User mags ... woohoo!!! I think I have a couple of those lying around too... Saying that .... I just purchased some 40 Atari magazines ... mainly ST Format ... off the local auction site. Add that to all my existing Computer Gamers and Amiga Format's and I am going to be super busy when I can finally afford buy a new scanner.
  23. And New Zealand Government elections are this weekend so everyone in my neck of the woods at the edge of the world needs to do the same. No good moaning about needing change if you aren't prepared to put your name to it no matter which way you choose to go .....
  24. Thanks ..... Don't forget I've made 80 odd N64 manuals available in pdf and I am converting them to CBR for inclusion in the downloads section so I'm not going anywhere until I've finished that. I'm just taking a break from scanning Amiga Formats, Computer Gamer mags etc for a while as I spend way too much time on this stuff at present. I have two arcade machines in pieces at present which I want to get back to finishing .... just a question of prioritising my spare time a little better for family, hobbies etc. If I had a sheet feeding duplex scanner I'd just do what Phillyman does and box cut the mags and let the scanner do all the work. But I dont and as you are aware it makes everything a time consuming process.
