  1. In my case ....the negativity around here is one part ... and burnout is another. What with comics, N64 stuff & mags I am spread pretty thin these days. I dont have a sheet feed scanner, nor an A3 scanner so everything is a manual, labour intensive process to get it to the level I am happy with. No raws from this person. And I spend so much time on all of this I haven't really had the time to devote to getting my arcade machines built which is a tad annoying as I have a Donkey Kong Jr PCB sitting idle as a result. So the negativity made me re-evaluate things .... I'll get the N64 stuff out of the way, then comics. After that ...you never know ....
  2. I thought so too ... although there's still some negativity from some quarters over that option. I have made all my N64 manuals in PDF format available in a posting here and am currently converting them to CBR format to make them consistent with what is available on the site ... no big deal and it allows me to incorporate the thank you page anyway ... but then I think I'll be outta here myself after getting them added to the Downloads section. Dont worry though ... I wont be removing any rapidshare files or anything ... I have rapidshare premium for more reasons than just this site ... so you'll always be able to get them.
  3. Someone told me he was the one who made the Computer Gamer scans available on the World of Spectrum website. So if you are contact with him can you ask if we can use the issues I am missing for this magazine. If we can it'll allow us to get a complete set up IF I continue with scanning all this stuff. That's a mighty big IF mind you at the present time ....
  4. Yeah .... I worded that one it sounded implied because I was a tad irritated too. And I knew what you were sayng all along so maybe I shoulda bitten my tongue instead. Still .... it has made me re-evaluate what I'm doing here. So I'm taking a break and going back to scanning comics for the other forum I frequent. They're smaller at 30 pages than 100+ page Computer Gaming mags and easier to get looking good so I'm putting my magazine scanning on hold and concentrating on those instead. This whole saga might have saved me a veritable truckload of work with a couple of hundred magazines sitting here. Always a silver lining huh!! ........
  5. Yeah ... I did see the "oh well ... it sucks" type comment but thought that someone on here who has any real interest in the site wouldn't be so down about the guys trying to make things better for you. Sorry if I hurt your feelings. Hell ... who am I anyway? ... I just thought that people still having access via Rapidshare wasn't that onerous so the comment irked me a tad. That's all ... But I'll shut up now & leave it to Meppi/Phillyman. Hell ... I'll even stop creating magazines and converting all my N64 manuals etc as I really do have better things to do that worrying about what's going on here.
  6. What do you mean by that? No one actually suffers because you can still get any file you wish simply by using the rapidshare link provided. So you wait 1 minute for the download button to become available ... well ... that's the price for the free download from their site. And not contributing financially or content wise to this site. Without something being done to stop the NES leechwhorez and their incessant creation of accounts simply to get files the site will get bogged down with Phillyman and Meppi having to do admin work instead of creating mags and over the top bandwidth usage. I have absolutely no problem not making direct downloads available for public & "normal" members. I dont even have a problem not having direct download links available to me as I have a Rapidshare account so these things download like a rocket and I'm happy to do that if it gives points to the uploader. Maybe people should try being constructive rather than moaning about it. I'm sure Phillyman would look at any options that helps the situation so if you think it can be done differently get your thinking cap on and come up with something.
  7. Who really gives a toss whether the site owns the rapidshare account? If the site wants one then fine, if they want to pay for the account go for it. The first time someone who has access gets a grudge then decides to delete everything in the account will scotch that one good and proper. Meppi & Phillyman obviously have one as they've been creating links for their uploads. Same for me now ... as I put N64 manuals etc up online I create the link back to my Rapidshare upload. If you dont have an account when you make a submission advise someone and we'll upload it to one of the accounts and get a link made to it.
  8. I hear you .... but once you've got it up onto Rapidshare that's it ... no more continuing bandwidth issues for you or the site for that file. That's why it may be preferrable with all the goings on recently to make rapidshare links the onlu option for the genral populace and direct downloads strictly for contributors [financial or content creators] Thus everyone still gets access on the files depending on their status.
  9. Nah .... make the direct download link available for paying users and content creators only and anyone else has to use the available Rapidshare link. If they get sick of waiting for the Rapidshare freebie links they can donate to the site to access the direct download button or they pay for a rapidshare account where they can queue files up etc. Either way we win because even a Rapidshare subscription gives the link owner points per download which can be used to subsidize the account fees etc for making the download available. Win - Win
  10. Doh!! Calm down ole boy ... RAR files are compressed files like zip files. Go to www.Rarsoft.com and download the free version off their site. Once you've installed it you can open a rar file just by double clicking on it. Inside you will find files ending with .cbr or .cbz. Extract that to your PC. Get a comicbook reader program ... they're free too ... and you're away laughing. Cool? No worries.... and enjoy some of the nice old magazines this site has to offer.
  11. Maybe content creators could use a blog as a way of keeping everyone up to date on what mags are being scanned etc and also what they actually have rather than having to continually search for their entries in the main forums to update time and again. Makes sense if you have one spot on the site which never moves with age etc where everyone can easily see/find out what goes on and is specific to the site. In that situation I like the idea of a blog.
  12. Wow!! First I've ever seen of this particular magazine. Very nice work indeed although the extra resolution/quality certainly blows the size out a bit eh Meppi .... Still .... lovely work indeed. Hope I get my contributions looking this nice some day.....
  13. Hehe .... congrats buddy. And maybe it gives you the MAXIMUM POWER to nullify the "Attack of the Clones" .... hopefully with a fully powered lightsabre Er ... sorry about the Wave Race 64 expletive there .... hehehe
  14. Just ban all direct downloads from non paying or magazine contributing members and allow newbies & losers to use a rapidshare link only. Simple and effective really..... it doesn't make any difference whether they create an account or not. No more impacting your bandwidth then ...... Or am I being too simplistic in my thinking? Hells teeth .... I'd even use a rapidshare link if it was the only way of taking direct downloads offline until you sort this issue out. And I'm sure most reasonable people around here would probably agree with too I'm betting. Still .... we brought on ourselves when we started making Nintendo Powers & EGM's by the truckload as it brings all the fanbois leechers like a bee to honey. And they do anything except contribute/pay to get around limitations going by experiences on other sites.
  15. I hear you and Phillyman's comments and I certainly don't disagree. And I am not advocating shutting the ability to download the magazines at all. BUT ... there's a cost to the bandwidth that is used ... not that I know what it is ... and we shouldn't be shafting contributors .... so maybe you need to rethink the site access to something along the lines of... Contributors [people creating the finished products] .... direct access Financial contributors .... direct access but a lower limit necessary to keep bandwidth at acceptable levels Anyone else .... rapidshare links ONLY It solves an issue with people creating accounts as they dont get access to direct downloads or have reduced limits if they contribute financially only and apart from a few of us having to keep a Premium rapidshare account going .... which would semi fund itself if people download via Points ... the costs are reduced on Phillyman's pocket. And there's always the torrent Phillyman created on Mininova etc The people like yourself, KBF_Joker buddy etc are the ones that make the site. Without you guys creating the magazines this site has no future. So you shouldn't be wasting time having to mod time wasters to the detriment of getting new mags online thus exacerbating the issue further. Just an opinion though ......
  16. I am slowly working through the old, really old in fact .... Computer Gamer magazine for 8-bit computers circa 1985. Slow going though as I am also doing Amiga Format's and some Atari manuals etc.
  17. Geez .... A $2.50 donation to download the same amount as someone toiling their butt off to create new content doesn't entirely seem fair either to be honest. That in itself is a certain disincentive to producing magazines. The producers of the content should always be incentived more than person making a probably one-off payment. Just an opinion though ......
  18. I personally created nearly 100 Nintendo N64 manuals for The Cover Project website which could be submitted if Phillyman gives it a go ahead. Hate the versions on Replacementdocs website .... too low res and usually poorly scanned etc ....
  19. Hahahahahahaha ........... I hear you. I KNEW that was what they were saying even if they did say "I dont own any anymore" That was merely a slip of the keyboard ....
  20. And what you all "MEANT" to say was "I have all these in original hardcopy format and am just downloading cause I want a digital copy" as per the disclaimer ROFL
  21. If I could only have 5 gaming items in my house/desert island [with an internet connection] they would probably be.... in no particular order ..... Mario 64 Battlefield 1942 with the addons + Desert Combat mod in one package Chuckie Egg [on Amstrad CPC] Day of Defeat M.A.M.E with all the romsets They'd do for me just fine ......
  22. I created a couple of Atari manuals which you could get as they are a small download compared to other magazines here. They are in the Downloads>Misc section. I sized them to 1280 x xxx, eg just resized the width not height to keep the correct aspect ratio. Some of the files here are created from raw scans with no cropping of extra widths etc ... I think Phillyman appends "r" to the filename for those to show they are raw ... and he will go back and crop them etc after he has done some more bulk scanning so they might not be ideal for a guide. Hope that helps
  23. I liked the current buttons .... well .... I liked the scanner button until it disappeared on me one day.
  24. I'm still using your one with the magazine piccies around the outside .... altered slightly to reflect the type of magazine being downloaded That one is nice I must say ......
  25. I think you get the same access to download limits if you scan and upload a magazine which I am sure would be preferable for the site but some people dont have scanners, magazines etc so the donation thing helps those people out. Mind you ... upload a mag and you qualify for premium member according to the FAQ and yet here I am .... a lowly Team Member ... and I lost my nice blue Scanner button ..... sniff sniff ... whats up with that? ROFL .... who gives a sh.......... as long as you can download a few files here and there eh
