  1. Hey KiwiArcader, just wanted to let you know that all your hard work is definitely appreciated. Growing up, I never read any of the Amiga or Atari magazine's (I was more into console's at the time) but I have no doubt that there are many people at Retromags who really enjoy all the magazine's that you're scanning. Incidentally, back in the 80's I had a Sinclair Spectrum and I would have killed to get my hand's on an Amiga, such a cool machine. Anyway Kiwi, thank's again for all your effort and I hope you continue scanning your magazine's in the future.
  2. Got these two today for my DS lite ..... Should have some fun with these.
  3. Just listened to episode one of the podcast, enjoyed it a lot. It's always interesting to hear how other's got into gaming and the Shining Force and Final Fantasy VI discussion's were good too. I usually just listen to the Retronauts podcast at 1 up.com but I'll definitely be listening to more of The Retro League in the future.
  4. Yet another game that I didn't know anything about. That's the great thing about Retromag's and your Blog in particular, all the cool new info on game's that I pick up. I really like point and click game's and was getting interested in Daughter of Serpents untill I read the part about finishing the game in about an hour. I think you're right, that has to be one of, if not the, shortest adventure game's ever. The game does look great though, judging from the screen shot's that you posted, and it's got the whole Lovecraft influence too, which is also a plus. Hopefully I'll get to play it some day. Great Blog Areala.
  5. Although I really like the look of the original GBA, I prefer the SP. It's a design classic. It's got the backlit screen and the cool clam shell design which help's protect the screen and make's it even more portable. I play my GBA game's on my DS now but if I was to buy a GBA, it would definitely be the SP.
  6. Bought F-Zero X for the N64 today. Works fine and play's great. Even though Nintendo had to keep the graphic's fairly simple to keep the frame rate up, I still think it look's great.
  7. Until I read your review, Borderlands hadn't really made much of an impression on me. Initially this was due to me thinking it was probably just a poor imitation of Fallout 3. Plus some of the magazine's which I read had given it solid review's but nothing spectacular. Since I read your review though I'm definitely thinking of checking it out. Great Blog as always.
  8. It's taken me a while but I'm pretty sure I've found out what the first game is. I think it's Buck Roger's : Planet of Zoom and I think the footage is of the Coleco Vision version. Man, that was tough but I had fun tracking down the name of the game. Moby Game's and the Arcade Flyer's Archive helped a lot. Now for game no. 3.
  9. That look's really good but then I have been burned by misleading trailers in the past. I agree with Mister Zero that it would be better if someone more authentically Persian looking was cast in the part but I guess it was felt that a recognizable actor would ensure more ticket sale's. Still not sure about Jake Gyllenhaal but the trailer look's really impressive.
  10. Wow these game's are tough. Well the first and last one anyway. I haven't a clue what they are. I do know the seccond game though, and not just because the title of the game is written on the dashboard. It's Day's of Thunder on the Nes. I remember reading about it in magazine's back in the day, most probably in C&VG or Mean Machine's Magazine. As for the other two game's, I'm at a loss. The first game look's like it could be a Nes game but that's as much as I'd guess. I'm sure someone out there will recognize them.
  11. It always kind of annoy's me when blatant product placement turn's up in video game's or movie's or wherever. I don't have a problem with product placement as such however, if it's done with a little wit or subtlety. But, like in the example's you gave, if a product is just thrown into a game and is conspicuously out of place, well that doesn't do anyone any favour's. Oh yeah, I was going to ask how Bawls taste but realizing that this would be childish and immature I somehow managed to restrain myself. Great Blog Areala.
  12. Just heard from a friend of mine that final boss Seth is going to be a lot harder in the single player mode of Super Street Fighter 4. Apparently, Capcom Community Manager Seth Killian, in an interview with Kotaku said that Seth would be "even cheaper and more irritating". That's just great. Like he wasn't tough enough already. Still looking forward to finding out who the new character's are going to be.
  13. Hey, I love these game challenge's. I'm pretty sure that number 1 is Xevious and I think it may be the Arcade version but I guess it could be the Nes version too. Number 2 kind of look's familiar but I can't remember what it's called and I have no clue what number 3 is. In fact I don't think I've ever seen the game before. I think number 4 is Dragon : The Bruce Lee story. I'm not sure if it's the Jaguar, Snes or Mega Drive version though. Hope you keep up these game challenge's Jake, there a lot of fun.
  14. That sound's like a great cause and a really cool event. I think I'd have to sink quite a few beer's before I'd have the courage to play Rock Band on stage though. Hope they make a lot of money.
  15. Some good choice's there. The nhl hockey video brought back some memories. I think nhlpa 93 and nhl 94 were my two favourite's on the Mega Drive. You had the cool fight's and the blood on the ice in nhlpa 93 and you had the real team name's and logo's in nhl 94. Both great game's.
  16. Sorry to hear about the dentist trip but hey, a DS with Lightsaber styluses and a My Japanese Coach game.....very cool. You'll be fluent in no time.
  17. Let us know if you get any cool video game present's.
  18. Happy Birthday Areala! Thank's for all your great work on Retromag's and especially thank's for all your amazing blog's. Have a good one and eat lot's of cake.
  19. I found it pretty hard to pick my top 5 16-bit game's, there are so many great game's from this era to choose from. These are my current top 5..... 1. Street Fighter 2 : The World Warrior (snes) 2. Super Mario World (snes) 3. Super Metroid (snes) 4. Legend of Zelda : A link to the Past (snes) 5. Sonic the Hedgehog (mega drive)
  20. Yeah, this game was one of my favourite's too when it was released. I remember thinking how great it looked, especially when compared with similar game's for the NES and Master System. I seem to remember it being a lot harder back in the day, but it still look's and play's great.
  21. I decided to check out Divi-Dead. I didn't think I'd like it too much as I prefer a lot more interaction when playing game's, but I actually do think it's very good. It look's great and even though I'm not far into the game yet, I'm making progress. I've unlocked about 27% of the Gallery so I've still got a long way to go. You were right about the game not shying away from the graphic and gratuitous but hey that has it's charm's too. Playing this game make's me wish two thing's... One, I wish that I could understand Japanese as the voice acting sound's amazing in this game. Two, I wish that my school nurse looked like Ms. Aki Hyuga and that my school secretary/vice principal looked like Mayumi Himuro. It would have made school a hell of a lot more interesting.
  22. I'm definitely no expert on NES game's but I think you got most of them right Jake. I think game 2 may be Ninja Gaiden1 and game 4 may be Chip N Dale Rescue Ranger's. And I think game 5 may be Castlevania for the NES and game 12 may be Metroid for the NES. I might not be one hundred per cent correct on these game's though. Either way, I can't wait to check out some of these game's, they look pretty cool.
  23. I didn't play the NES much back in the day. They weren't that popular in my part of the world, especially compared to machine's like the Spectrum, Commodore 64 and Amstrad. Even the Sega Master System seemed more popular than the Nes. I realize that in America and Japan and elsewhere the Nes was incredibly popular but I didn't have a lot of experience of it. I recently borrowed a friend's NES though and I've been really impressed with it. It's easily superior to anything I was playing back in the day. I don't really know why it didn't succeed more in my part of the world, maybe Nintendo didn't feel they needed to market it that much when it was so successful everywhere else. Who know's? I've been playing Mega Man 1 and 2 and having a lot of fun. Man, those game's are tough, but I keep going back for more. I'm looking forward to checking out a lot more NES game's too, so that IGN article on the Top 100 NES game's of all time will come in handy. I can see why so many people love the NES, it's a great console.
  24. I always associate the early NHL Hockey game's and Madden game's on the Mega Drive with Pearl Jam's c.d. Ten and the Beastie Boy's c.d. Check Your Head. I used to listen to both of them a lot while playing these game's. They just kind of went together. There are many point and click game's that I associate with the following ladies. They always put me in a good mood when I'm trying to figure out how to progress in Monkey Island or Broken Sword or whatever the game is. Nina Simone Billie Holiday Ella Fitzgerald I always think of the King's of Leon when I play Virtua Fighter 5 as I had their music on in the background a lot when I first got the game for my 360.
  25. I'm totally stumped on this. I got the Moonwalker and Toe Jam and Earl one's for the Mega Drive/Genesis but I haven't a clue what the Decapitation game is. I'm not even sure what console it's running on. I don't think it's running on a Mega Drive, Snes or Pc engine but I could be wrong. Maybe it's something like the Mega CD. Looking forward to finding out the name of the game and the console it's running on.
