  1. Hmmmm smaller, lighter, 120GB Hard Drive, play's Blu Ray movie's and now priced at 299 euro's. You know I'm starting to get a little tempted.
  2. Just recently had the chance to play Operation Wolf on a friend's Pc Engine. This game is a lot of fun. Great graphic's and sound and really addictive like all great Arcade game's. I kept wanting just one more go every time I lost a life. I never saw the original Arcade Coin-Op game but I'm guessing the Pc Engine conversion comes really close as it's such a great game. The game I played was from Japan so some of the text was a complete mystery to me but not enough to spoil the game in any way. I don't know if the game was ever released in the U.S. or not? I wasn't really aware that there was a Pc Engine version of the game but I saw an article about it in the latest issue of the brilliant "Retro Gamer" magazine and decided to check it out. The more I find out about the Pc Engine/TG-16 the more I'm impressed. It's a great little system.
  3. 1. Ken (Street Fighter 2) 2. Link 3. Haohmaru (Samurai Shodown) 4. Samus Aran 5. Mario 6. Lara Croft 7. Sonic 8. Chun-Li 9. Kage Maru (Virtua Fighter) 10 Parappa the Rapper This list changes all the time for me, but at the moment these are my top 10 video game heroes ever.
  4. Man, I really loved this game on the Snes and the Mega Drive. I really liked Fei Long and Cammy. Mmmmmm Cammy . And even Deejay has started to grow on me a little, after all these years. T-Hawk of course still suck's as bad as he ever did and allways will. I never really liked this advert for the game. Why have some nondescript guy with just the name of the game on the back of his jacket when there was so much great Capcom character art to work with. Even just putting the four new character's on the page would have been better.
  5. Great Blog. I kind of went through a similar phase when I wasn't all that interested in video games but then I discovered the Snes and never looked back. Since then I've been a pretty committed gamer. Good to hear about other gamer's experience's. Enjoyed your blog. Keep up the good work.
  6. The 3do is way down on the list of console's that I'd like to own, simply because it doesn't have that many games that appeal to me. However if I ever did get my hand's on one, the first two game's I would buy for it would be Super Street Fighter 2 Turbo and Samurai Shodown. I haven't played them on the 3do yet but the review's I've read of them are really positive and the footage I've seen of them on u tube look's amazing. To be honest I don't really know that much about the console, it wasn't really on my radar back in the day. I owned a Snes and a Mega Drive when it came out and when the 32 bit era arrived I got a Playstation.
  7. That's such a great avatar. Not just for it's bouncy charm's, which I have to say do a lot for me. But also because it's just so cute. I'm guessing she comes from a fighting game.

  8. I'd love to see game's based on Fat Albert, Home Movie's and The Hair Bear Bunch. These three are some of my favourite cartoon's of all time and I think either one would be great as a Lucas Art's type point and click game. I'd also like to see a South Park game. I know there have been quite a few already but a good one would be nice for a change. It's a criminal waste of such a good cartoon.
  9. I thought The Getaway for the Ps2 was a pretty Overhyped game. Yes it has it's good point's. The London location was a nice change from other game's of the time and I liked the movie type opening credit's sequence which had some brilliant music. I remember it had a lot of favourable preview coverage from the video game magazine's in my part of the world and Sony were hyping it up a lot too. However when I got the game, I found that the control's were pretty bad and it in no way lived up to all the hype.
  10. Super Mario World is my favourite Mario game of all time. It was also the first Mario game that I ever played. Before that I was getting my gameing fix's from computer games and when I got a Snes and Super Mario World, well it blew my mind. I love every thing about this game; the graphic's are so beautiful and colourful, the catchy music, the amazing level design which ensure's that if you loose a life in the game it is allway's your own fault and never the game's. I could go on and on. I know many people who really love SMB 3 and that is a great game too but for me Super Mario World is my favourite Mario game and one of the best game's ever made. Can't wait till the next time I play it.
  11. TMNT Hyperstone Heist for the Mega Drive is one of my favourite Beat Em up's. It may not look quite as good as TMNT Turtles In Time for the Snes and it may not be as long but this is the version that I had back in the day and I had a lot of fun with it. I allway's liked Final Fight for the Snes too. I know the lack of 2 player co-op was unforgivable and a whole level missing plus the ommission of character's like Rolento really didn't do the game any favour's. But at the time I wasn't that aware of the Arcade version so these huge difference's plus the fact that only two of the 3 main character's were available in the game didn't really affect me. All I experienced was an amazing looking game that was a lot of fun to play. Me and a buddy of mine would take it in turns to see who could get farthest into the game and then later on we would see who could get through the game the quickest. I've also played Final fight One on the GBA and that is a great version of the game. Hopefully some day I will get a chance to play the SEGA CD version of the game.
  12. Just bought a copy of Golden Axe for the Mega Drive. The case is kind of dusty but the cart and instructions are in good condition and I only paid five euro's for it. Can't wait to play it, again.
  13. Yeah your right, he does name check Playstation in his song's too. Good spot. Actually in the same song "The Irony of it all" there's the line "just a few eight's and some playstation's my vocation". Can't remember any N64 reference's but I'm sure there probably are some.
  14. Just read your "So you bought a Crappy Game" blog. Really enjoyed it, some excellent constructive and destructive idea's to heal the pain of buying a crappy game. Hope you feel better and for what it's worth, the way you write, I'm sure it's only a matter of time before someone is paying you to write professionally.

  15. Wow I'm really impressed and seriously jealous of all the brilliant retro console's that my fellow retromags member's have collected. The console's that I currently own include: Sega Mega Drive II, Playstation and N64. I also have a Playstation 2 and Xbox but I don't really think of them as retro console's, at least not yet. So my collection is pretty small but in my defence I have had to sell other console's in the past to fund my video game habit. I used to own a Snes, an original gameboy, a gameboy colour and a gameboy advance and of course now I regret ever having to sell them and all their games. At least there is one advantage to not currently having a lot of console's. I can look forward to all the cool console's that I will hopefully be able to buy in the future. Top of the list is a Sega Saturn which I really want. All those great first party Sega games and Capcom fighter's and of course Night's, can't wait. I still play all of my retro console's pretty regularly but the Mega Drive is the one I play the most. Hopefully sometime in the future I will also by playing a Saturn, a Snes , a Neo Geo, a Sega CD, a PC Engine etc. Just thinking about these great console's bring's a big smile to my face.
  16. There's the line "I just completed Gran Turismo on the hardest setting" in the song "The Irony of it all" by The Street's It's been a while since I've listened to the song but it's about an aggressive drunk guy having a conversation with a laid back stoner student and it's pretty funny. I'm sure some of The Street's other song's may have some Video Game references too but this is the only one I remember.
  17. It seem's like there's not a lot of love for sport's game's, judging from what I've read so far on this topic but I actually kind of like them. My least favourite game genre is R.T.S. games. Whether it's because originally they were so associated with P.C's and I was more a console guy I don't know, but anyway I never really got into them. All of that resource management etc. just seemed like hard work to me. Maybe I should check out a few R.T.S. game's for my Xbox 360 to see if the genre has changed or improved any, but to be honest I can't think of any decent examples on the 360. Another genre that I don't like that much is puzzle games with the exception of course being Tetris, which is so addictive. The crack cocaine of video game puzzler's.
  18. I've downloaded every Street Fighter 2 game for the Snes and Mega Drive, just because I love that game so much. The only Neo Geo game that I've downloaded is Samurai Shodown which is really good, allthough I recently had a long conversation with a friend about why he think's Samurai Shodown 2 is so much better so I will probably get that game too. I haven't downloaded any Pc Engine games yet as they don't really interest me too much at the moment. Where's Outrun and After Burner 2 for instance? As I'm such a SF 2 junkie I would love it if they made Street Fighter 2 Champion Edition available for download. The only Pc Engine game which I might get in the future is Devil's Crush which I remember having a lot of fun with back in the day. Apart from the games mentioned above, I've also downloaded the following classic Snes and N64 games... Super Mario World Legend of Zelda, a link to the past Super Mario 64 Mario kart 64

    Nes Guide

Great little site, thank's for pointing it out. I've just spent the last 20 minute's watching some of the cool games I used to play on my friend's Nes back in the day. Great fun.
  20. So that's what the attack on the Death Star level look's like, I didn't get even close to it back in the day. Man, this game was hard. Anyway, thank's for the vids, they brought back a lot of memories.
  21. Hmmm let's see. For: Immortality Against: Having to drink people's blood to survive. Tendency to burst into flames if caught in sunlight. The whole albino look. You know, I think I still would give it a go for the chance of immortality.
  22. My dream Game Room would be pretty simple. 1. Lazyboy and mini fridge. 2. 32" 1080p t.v. for current generation console's and big old crt t.v. for retro console's. 3. Arcade Machines: Street Fighter 2, The World Warrior Gauntlet Outrun Virtua Fighter 2 Street Fighter 3, Third Strike 4. Jessica Alba, Beyonce and Selma Blair playing pool in the corner. That's not too much to ask for, is it?

    Movie Purchases!

I bought some movie's on DVD today. Rushmore, the Wes Anderson comedy. This movie is so good and Bill Murray and Jason Schwartzman's performance's are brilliant. Loud Quiet Loud, a film documentary of the band the Pixie's. Taxi Driver, one of my favourite's. The music by Bernard Herrmann is so atmospheric.
  24. Man I wish I had the help of the Web when I was playing Scooby Doo on the Mega Drive, it would have really helped. I didn't buy a Dreamcast back in the day but I allways read about the games comming out for it in the video game mags. I didn't realize there were any point and click games for the system. Now I wish I had bought a Dreamcast, just for the handful of great first party Sega games. But instead I bought a Playstation 2 which was a lot of fun too.
  25. I just remembered playing a Scooby Doo point and click game for the Mega Drive which was a lot of fun. I think it was released fairly late into the life of the Mega Drive so I don't know if many people know of it, but I remember it looked great, just like the cartoon and it had two different story's to play through. Some of the puzzles were a little obscure if I remember correctly but still a great game.
