  1. The RetroVGS was a huge disaster, you would have to wonder how many people will be motivated to help out with Retro magazine in the future. I wouldn't be surprised if it was discontinued.
  2. Thanks for scanning the 1991 EGMs, this is a treasure trove for me.
  3. Are the file extensions fixed on the files? I noticed a lot of the Nintendo Power scans are zip compressed, but had a CBR extension for some reason (note that I downloaded them years ago off a torrent).
  4. Sorry to hear about Megaupload shutting down, effectively closing this site down. Makes me regret not keeping up to date on my magazine collection. I appreciate all the work you guys have done, hopefully a long term hosting solution can be made.
  5. Maybe I am completely blind here, but with the plethora of uploads recently, I may have missed a magazine I would like to download (the recent uploads list on the side bar only shows the last 5 uploads). Is there a way to see the uploaded magazines in chronological order?
  6. Yikes, that is horrible, I hope you have luck in retrieving things. I guess in the future, it might be ideal to work on one magazine at a time.
  7. Considering how he can't even be bothered to search through magazines, I don't think he could manage to look through a ROM image to find things. Even with my level of skill, I find it hard to find the exact solutions to hacking cheats. You pretty much have to know assembly to properly hack.
  8. As far as I know, there is no website that specializes in Genesis prototypes the way I do. You could try asking on Hidden Palace.
  9. This is really where having a good bibliography database would be key. BTW, I don't know if you have searched for it, but there is a prototype of Clay Fighter 2 for the Genesis. I have a picture of the prototype board, though I am unsure who owns it and whether or not the ROM image was dumped.
  10. I sent a message to TheRedEye, so hopefully he will respond. I hear his new job is pretty demanding.
  11. You should probably hunt down this issue of Ultra Gameplayers dating to April (?) 1998. It had Gex 2 for the N64 featured on the cover, with Gex holding a 64DD disk. It had a great article on the 64 DD, listing off dozens of possible games, plus tons of screenshots.
  12. The first key to your research is to know that the 64DD was actually released. Lots of info is at this site: http://64dd.net/modules/news/
  13. I just finished completely documenting the January 1993 issue of EGM. Download the bibliography in ODS and XLSX formats. Note that I decided to include sales and upcoming games lists in the bibliography, but I think it would be downright insane to try and include the store listings. However, when it comes to those lists, I was not rigorous to ensure that the proper name matched up. In the end, there was 876 entries.
  14. I tried selling a bunch of games on Ebay back in June. I had what I thought were reasonable buy it now prices, but the only "best offers" I got were severely lowballed to the point that there was no point in selling them at all. I'm sorry, but I am not selling a lot of 95 games, including many rare and valuables ones, for $200. Ebay really ruined it by shifting emphasis away from auctions.
  15. I'm sure creating a database such as this would not be a hard thing, and as such would probably make a good project for a beginner. One complication might be trying to link together games that might have different names (like someone puts in "Street Fighter 2" while another puts in "Street Fighter II").
  16. Very cool, I will have to check out. I wonder if anyone in Japan has ever started to scan old Famitsu magazines, as they might have a lot of shots from early Super Famicom stuff (I know that Tongueman has done one issue). Herein lies why it is necessary to have a bibliography, so we can find these gems of games that were in early development.
  17. Are you going to program it for me? Because I'm not programming it.
  18. Well, I'm hoping that my referencing will be far broader that a "table of contents". I'm listing stuff like advertisements and mere mentions in previews and such. Perhaps someone can create an SQL script that can read these files and create something that is searchable. That is beyond my level of interest, though. I hope that with a spreadsheet format, that anyone can contribute to such a project of compilation.
  19. It would likely be best to do both, that way many people could work on the different issues (should there be more people interested in doing this other than me), then have a master list with all issues. Though until there are a few issues documented, there is no point in having a summary list. I will spend some time creating a few bibliographies for a few magazines to use as examples. BTW, I decided to do an "author" section.
  20. One of the things that makes researching difficult is the lack of comprehensive reference lists. For example, in scientific research, you can look up a topic in Google Scholar, and it will come up with a list of relevant papers with reference to the journal/book the article is in. I would like to solve this issue when it comes to video game magazines. I have created a spreadsheet with what I have in mind for a bibliography, which you can download here in XLSX and ODS format. I've been doing this to create comprehensive bibliographies for games on SNES Central (for example, look at my Super Mario World). I expanded the spreadsheet to include a "system" column so that it can house more systems than just SNES. In order to track unreleased games and the development times for games, I have been quite thorough in documenting the SNES games found in the list (even a mere mention in a preview is added on the list). Ideally, I think it would be best to create an complete document for each magazine, and have the spreadsheet available for download on the Wiki page for each issue. Another option is to have the bibliography for each magazine or system, though such a file might be harder to maintain. Any thoughts on what columns might be good to include on the spreadsheet? I was thinking of an "author" field, though in most magazines of the 90s, many articles did not specify an author, or they hid behind anonymous handles.
  21. In Linux (specifically Gnome), if you have a zip file labeled as a CBR file, Document Viewer (the default document reader) will not open it, and it does not show a proper preview icon. It is a good policy to have a proper extension. It is kind of a hassle to have to rename things.
  22. Did anyone get a chance to re-upload this, because I never got a copy of it.
