I suppose Jaleco and Seta were Jap companies mainly? I don't think they've produced anything here for years. I won't miss KB and Lucasarts doesn't give us anything good either.

Solo Play is the other. It's based on time taken so low should be the goal.
-
First off, there are 2 in the arcade that aren't set properly. Some sheep game and another one should be set to low score on top. I'll get the names in a minute. Before I forget though I just tried the Mario slots in the casino and it stole 550 credits as it doesn't insert them properly and when you cash out nothing is left. Where's the guy in the striped shirt who can give me my quarters back? Or I can take a roll of tickets... *One is called Reaction. I can't find the other at the moment. Who runs these areas anyway? You wouldn't happen to take suggestions for new games or allow DL's, do ya? I run the arcade at another site (not the site it's hosted on though) and have like 150 different games, many which aren't here.

Wow, this is like trying to choose a favorite child. Where do we draw the line between classic and retro though? Classic to me is the past few gen's, retro would be like before NES. I don't think I could choose, so many hours were spent in front of my NES, SNES, and PS1. Plus the retro units like Atari and Colecovision. Sega made great stuff although my Nin systems always had more of the games I preferred (not big on sports and fighting). The handhelds were a godsend on vacations, hot days in front of the AC, the rare power outage, etc.

A PS1 game? Because I think there was a compatibility issue with one of those FF discs. Had it happen to me but I don't recall which game.
-
Ah. I still got my original launch day PS2 and it works fine. I simply had to clean the dust out once or twice to rid of a DRE. Did it myself and read everything I threw at it.
-
The PS3 isn't compatible with every single thing. I know I used mine a while ago to finish up the PS2 versions of GH since that guitar won't work with the PS3. Plus god forbid your PS3 go down you'll have a backup. My main reason is it's MY console and I'll never get back what I paid for it so I rather let it retire and look nice in my collection rather than wonder if a dog is chewing the wires or some brat is hitting it with a hammer.

I'm aware of that. I asked if anyone would want them now to scan for later, before I get rid of them and you gotta find them all over again. That's all. If you want, you can get the EGM's and I can send the rest to Tri since he said he'd take them if nobody else will. I'm just gonna recycle them otherwise as I don't have any attachment to those mags.
-
I hear ya. If anyone wants them, let them have them. But if nobody takes 'em then give you a holler. Again I'm in no rush. Whenever someone wants them just let me know. No hurry to get them scanned either, if I wanted to read them right away I'd keep them. Cool. I'll keep that in mind. I'd choose the cheapest option available and if saying the wrong thing jacks up the price, well... Um, it's a mag. (I know, like 'duh'). It's a little older and it covered the current consoles at the time. The first mag I got was a buying guide to PS2 launch games. The next was about the XB launch. Another issue in the pile compares the GC and XB (as if I didn't already know GC would have better games). It's published by Ziff Davis and has a bunch of EB ads. So in a way I guess it's like the EB version of GI. Which makes sense due to the switch when they began merging. If you want more info I'd have to read through one again.
-
Ah ok. I'm still kinda new so I don't know how things are here. Don't want ya's to be fighting over them or something. Lol. Ok, so here's what I got. Surprisingly it's not all GI. I think EB used to send me GMR since a third of the stack is different. Forgot about them actually. I still don't want 'em though. Also included is the last third, a pile of EGM's, probably also from EB. -- GI: #163 - Nov 06 through #189 - Jan 09 GMR: #8 - Sep 03 through #24 - Jan 05 EGM: #139 - Feb 01 through #150 - Jan 02, plus #136 - Nov 00, and #167 - June 03 -- Most mags are in perfect shape but a couple have a few snags on the cover from being chewed in the mail system. I tried to remove the labels too, some more successful than others where some residue was left behind. Dunno how you take it off or edit it out. Alrighty, so that's the stack at this time. Where do we go from here? If these aren't needed, that's cool. I'll recycle them or something.
-
Tri also IM'ed me so whichever ones wants them is fine by me. I'll get ya's the list later today and then we'll decide what to do. I guess I'm not really looking for much, maybe just shipping. My 'reward' is to not have them hanging around. Haven't given thought to any of my other mags. Although I should probably give in and send 'em, put them in digital format so I can still read them without them taking space. I doubt anything but my NP #1 is worth anything.

Since I don't consider Zelda an RPG (more of an action/adventure) I think it was either FF1 or Dragon Warrior 1. Forget which I had first. Looking back on them both were hard as hell compared to today's RPG's. DW required way too much grinding. I beat the game eventually but it turned me off the series. FF was great at the time, although I probably can't play the original now since the battles are too frequent and it requires hours of time to make it to your destination and then get back to the inn to save.

I gotta be honest, $2500 for old magazines is wishful thinking. Good luck getting what ya can.

The potential exists but rarely do I have a problem buying a game used. Actually, wait there was one time and of all places at EB.com. Someone gave them a demo CD with the words 'demo' colored in and guess they got full credit. So when I buy the game I end up with the demo. Luckliy they knew me at the local shop and they gave me a refund (rather than send it back and go through that process). Of course sometimes there's a snafu, a cracked case, a UPS error (which took 2 months to sort out), or something. For the most part my purchases have been trouble free. Ya just gotta check the pics and ask questions before buying/bidding.
-
A bingo right there. Amazon has great deals if you wait a while, and the items are new. Rarely do I buy a game around its release as I'm so backed up I wouldn't get to it in time before finding it discounted. Right now I just played Mario Galaxy and likely won't get to 08's games for a few months yet. GTA4, MGS4, and so on.
-
I made sure to collect the issues with the Mario and Zelda comics, they were good. Thing was I never had a subscription to the mag as I was getting them free from friends. When they stopped I went years without seeing NP, so there is a huge gap in what I read. Pretty much from late SNES through the N64 and GC days, I didn't start on my own until I picked up a Wii.
-
Yeah, I saw that comic.
-
One thing I should add is that used games are fine. Used hardware is another story. You don't know what the previous owner did or if they took care of it. I try to buy hardware and controllers new and save the money on the games. Pays off in the long run I think.

What Game Would You Like To See Ported To Which System?

Bah, you shoulda got a PS3 instead. 360 only offers a bunch of shooters. LBP is a great game as I'm sure you know. -

I got a PS3 and a Wii so I'm not really missing anything. I'd like to see more retro remakes than updated ports. So many great titles from the past I'd like to see sequels to. Less FPS's would be nice as for me that's a PC-only genre. -
Buying used is a huge part of my success. EB/GS has buy 2 get 1 sales often that I take advantage of. Might cost $100 (2x $55) but you get 3 games for about $35 each, less if you don't select new items. Other stores offer discounts and sales you need to keep an eye out for. Like when Toys R Us had a buy 2 get 1 on NEW games, I got 6 the first sale and 3 the second. Ebay is another option if you want classic games or if you feel lucky. As for the funds, well I don't do much besides work and playing games. I also play paintball occasionally but since I work there too (second job) I play cheap. The rest of my free time is spent here so all the money I'm not spending on fast food, movies, gas, friends/dates, shopping, vacations, cell phones, etc, gets saved until I find some deals. If you don't collect them you could trade them in or sell them online to make your money back. You just need to sell them while they're popular.

Only 80 games? Damn that's old. Lol. And the Howard guy, he hasn't been in the mag for years. Hey it's true. When I used to take my games on the porch for some multiplayer, the kid count grew rapidly. Our record was 14 kids stuffed on half of the porch playing Super Bomberman 2 (SNES). There was hardly room to stand at that point. 3 rounds, winner stays, the other 3 trade off. Great times. That would have been the job for me. Bug testing isn't actually 'playing' the game like you would as a counseler. Several times friends would ask me for hints too. Many things I figured out on my own but I gotta admit I had gathered quite the collection of guides, books, maps, and magazines for anything I didn't know.

I'd like to catalog them in a text file to keep track of everything better but I don't use Excel or any spreadsheets on this PC. I might look into the site Philly uses, however as was said if anything happens you lose all the work. Basically I just took pics of each set and made a small site as a catalog. Gotta finish revising it before posting it up. I really don't need a ton of info like version, release date, age/price, or all that jazz. Just wanna know what I have and show it to anyone interested, and for that purpose pics are best.

Huh, some people consider games RPG's that I normally wouldn't. And due to my unplayed stack growing too large I've cut out all new RPG's. Still, I got a good list of classics from past systems. Both Lunar games FF6 FF7 Chrono Trigger Secret of Mana Wild Arms Surely there were more. As for stuff I didn't like, FF8 felt too different and it was somewhat of a turnoff. The story was alright but the whole monetary and weapons collection stunk. I beat Chrono Cross yet saw very little that tied it to the last game, to me it felt like any other RPG rather than a sequel. Xenogears I got halfway through and never beat, it dragged on and on then got set aside.
