  1. It's not a given if we don't allow it. We have the money companies need, they have to cater to us. There's also too much in the way to go all digital, it wouldn't work if they wanted it to. Yeah in their race to make laptops stupid small they started forgetting important parts. I got a Toshiba myself because I burn my own CD's to MP3. The people who don't care aren't the core audience. They'll only play a handful of games. You're right though, where people like us have more to lose if we don't take some precautions.

    Still need GI covers?

Updates. First of all the PC the new printer/scanner is hooked to decided now was a good time to start having disc read problems. I'm guessing the HDD but who knows. I thought to try a different browser and suddenly there are more fields on the edit page. Why won't those show up in FF? The images I UL'ed could probably be resized. I'm like double what any other scans show up as. I can also try to cut the edges where the scanner cover is visible. These 4 images were more of a test than anything so whenever I get back to making scans I hope someone is able to remove the images I recently added and can replace them with something more appropriate.
  3. Being that last gen was the first to really offer patches and digital games we haven't had a need for a rescue plan. This has been discussed recently at other forums. I went on to say that when that time comes I'm sure 'something' will be in place, either a switch to allow you to backup or enjoy this content offline, or let someone else host the files. This goes for all platforms. Despite what their policies say it would destroy a company to just deny their customers their files. Still, I'm with Are. I'd rather not chance it and wait to see what they do. Discs means my solution is in place right now. Hopefully the games I purchase won't demand a day one patch to function if those servers go away someday.
  4. Loss of discs is only part of it. Steam is just a terrible platform. I tried it once and ran into more problems than I should have for a single game. I don't care what price they offer, it's not worth the hassle. Hell they tried to bribe me with free copies of Portal for years and I still refused. I eventually found the game on PS3 and paid for the copy.
  5. Building a PC isn't 'that' expensive, I'd say a lot of people overestimate. You never need high end parts. Graphics shouldn't be the focus of a game.

    Still need GI covers?

I think I got past the gallery, it's linking it to the database. There's only 2 fields and neither one is for covers. I also think I left them at too large a size... Oops.
  7. Not by choice. One of my English classes had us write in a journal daily (busy work I'd say). I'm not a fan of writing, nevermind the fact my thoughts are scary enough the first time without having a hard copy available to scare me again. Not sure what ever happened to that notebook. These days I tend to post a lot online but it's never anything personal. Putting your personal details online often leads to unwanted attention.

    Still need GI covers?

Welp, I dunno WTF I'm doing. So I scanned 6 images and 2 were sucky and crooked (no idea how). I saved them as JPG's and blanked out the address area, no other touchups. I uploaded the 4 good ones to an album under my account and now I don't know how to get them in the right places. If I look in the gallery there's just a random set of pics and the same upload button from before. If I go into the database to edit specific records all I see is a way to edit the price and pages.

Don't worry about it. I was the one who couldn't find the old topic and thought there was a big gap in the GI database. Now it looks totally different.

    Still need GI covers?

I don't know when I started getting them but the database is complete for the last 3 or 4 pages. I'd have to go back to '08. When this first came up I thought we were missing a lot more of the newer mags. Someone must have beaten me to it.

    Still need GI covers?

Actually OPM was canceled and PSM became Ptom. I had a sub to PSM for most of its run and the last year or two went by the new name. I noticed because I was looking through my shelf of mags to see what I might be able to provide eventually.

Is there a reason P:ToM is in the UK section? I checked the US list several times before coming to ask why you're missing a whole publication. Then noticed it in the above section. Then was surprised it's been gone 3 years. I know it's too new to preserve but maybe you'll accept those covers too if I find time. I won't throw those mags out.
  13. Wow, we're much alike it seems. I'll buy a few games digitally if that's the only option and if it costs $10 or less. The vast majority of my collection is physical. I too have given up on PC's because of 'malware' like Steam or Origin. Ever since getting the Aimon (a mouse controller for the PS3) I've had no reason to touch PC as a gaming platform. Anyway I often partake in discussions like this on other forums. I'm pretty stubborn about keeping a physical format. I don't think we have to worry about that for a while because gaming is a worldwide market and we simply don't have the infrastructure in place nor have solutions to the other hurdles. The people going all digital seem lazy to me, saying things like they don't want to switch discs or they aren't responsible enough to keep their discs away from destructive pets and children. The discs themselves are resistant to damage, you have to TRY to break them. Preservation is something I'd like to see a focus on. If by some crappy chance we end up losing our physical formats I'm prepared to stop buying new content and going back to enjoy all the games I've gathered over the years. It's my own preservation solution. My future is set regardless of how things turn out. If anything we may exchange optical formats for something like cards, carts, or flash memory. I'd be ok with that.

    Still need GI covers?

Lol. Shows how often I've been in the magazine section. Cool. Hopefully I can send some soon then you can let me know how they came out. Thanks. *Am I too late? I checked the gallery and it seems the covers are already uploaded for the last several years. **I can do PSM covers, maybe that's what we were discussing. I have them all from issue 11 to the end. GI is just 'junk' now.
  15. I know this came up a month or two ago but I forget where we were talking about it. I'm planning on clearing out a bunch of modern GI mags and someone said that although the site cannot preserve them, you still wanted the front covers for the database. Turns out I got a new all in one that has a much better scanner than I had. (I mean the thing scans and prints in the time the old one took just to warm up.) Were there specific settings or do I just get the biggest, cleanest scan I can to send to whoever wants to upload them? I don't know how many I have but it's at least a couple years worth. Then unless someone claims them I'll probably recycle them since I'm not attached to the publication like my older mags.
  16. I don't believe in those gimmicky phones so just a Vita and 3DS. I have many others but haven't used 'em in a while. I agree the Vita gets a bad reputation for no good reason. Nin does well without third party support so why does the Vita need first party? The system has rewarded me with a lot of unique games and that's exactly what I want in these days of excess ports and sequels. Probably have about 30-35 physical games for it including the first 3 imported games I've ever gotten. I'm also trying not to buy all the RPG's because my backlog isn't too compatible with long games.
  17. Tried it once and won't ever go near it again.
  18. Meh. Couldn't care less about that or the whiny groups behind it. My project comes first. I'm just waiting to see if any coupons show up for Ebay before buying the rest of the stuff.
  19. I'm sure once I explain it everyone will want it. (And probably call themselves a nerd at the same time. Lol.) On Ebay I often see people using those fusable beads to recreate 8 or 16 bit NES/SNES characters. Thinking you could do the same with LED's and have the ability to change it, I saw this online and thought it was pretty neat. Besides who doesn't like colored lights? http://ledpixelart.com/ Too bad it was kind of expensive, even if it's in a neatly designed package. I've always wanted to try a Pi and found a site called Adafruit that sells a lot of kits and pieces for all sorts of things. Touchscreens, printers, cameras, sensors... They support other items like the Arduino too. https://www.adafruit.com/ And then I figured ok, I can make my own lamp with the Pi and use it for other things. I'm finding out the Pi does a lot. I've been waiting because the LED panels I wanted have been out of stock since Dec. Found a few on Ebay for a lot less but I wasn't sure they were the same until last night when I checked the pin diagrams and they look like they should work. So I might go ahead with it and give myself something to do besides work through the gaming backlog.
  20. Funny you mention the Pi because I got one for myself over the holidays and haven't decided what I want to do with it. I could make an emulation box, although I've done that before so it wouldn't be 'new' enough. I could make a home media server for the few DVD sets I have. Or my original idea of making a pixel art lamp, except the panels haven't yet been in stock and I'm not 100% sure yet the ones on Ebay will work. You wouldn't know anything about those would ya? Ha.
  21. I'm interested too. Sega was a secondary console for me since I was more into Nin's style of games, but now it's easier to have multiple systems. Despite my backlog and already owning a PS4 and U, maybe I'll add a third or fourth console if this and that Coleco project turn into something good.
  22. To him it was cleaning out. I got a lot of NP's and GP's. Couple years worth of each I guess. I got the sub to NP when the Wii came out and held it until the end. Also started with PSM from issue 11 onwards and PTOM too. I imagine someday it would be fun to reread them but honestly my collection focuses on games and hardware. The mags are taking a bunch of extra space and if I could thin out a little that would be great.
  23. I don't recall selling any but I'm sure I've talked about it. Odd thing with Game Players is I never had the sub. A friend did and then gave them to me. *Correction. I subbed to PSM. He gave me GP.
  24. I don't have anything to ask for. I 'might' have gotten a little ambitious last month during BF. My backlog just increased by like 22 games, all heavily discounted of course. I'm already at least a year behind everyone else. However I do finish nearly all games instead of walking away early like most people.
  25. Worth a try. I use 7 which came on the lappy I bought several years ago. Not sure the last time I used the scanner but if that's how old it is then I dunno what kind of picture to expect. It would give me more reason to keep shopping for a color laser all in one. Inkjets waste more ink than I'd use. I just didn't want to pay that much yet. Took a quick tour last night and you guys are missing a lot of PSM too. I missed the first year but have the whole rest of the set.
